Thrillist best of west village bar - best cocktail bar. Save for the suspiciously quiet queue that wraps around the corner, the outside is unmarked. You'll wait, ID in shaking hand, for the frightening man at the door to decide if you're worth the mustachioed barman's bespoke cocktails. Once inside, you'll realize no one wants to whiskey-shame you -- the joint is actually totally, totally chill.

Fantastic speakeasy style cocktail bar. The "bartender's choice" is always a great option, frequently leading to discovery of new and delicious cocktails that were exactly what I was looking for. My favorite is the Penicillin, a fantastic blend of peat, citrus, and ginger. They do a great job of timing people's entry so you won't have to fight your way to the bar.

Another speakeasy in the city, but at least the ambiance here matches the idea. The bartenders are suspendered and there is a live jazz band. It gets super crowded on weekends and standing at the bar is more like a mosh pit. I wasn't in love with any of the drinks I had as they tended to be overly bitter with a grapefruit taste, even when no grapefruit was present. The staff is also a bit pretentious and the bartender had a bit of attitude when taking our order. Overall, great atmosphere but only average drinks and service.

Cocktails are well done, and atmosphere is lovely. Seems you have to get the right staff to really make it top notch though (quality of service suffers, but at least not the quality of drink). Absolutely lovely.

This place is very cool. The cocktails and bartenders are excellent - honestly the best I've had in NYC. If I didn't have friends who go regularly though, I'm not sure if ever be able to get in on a busy night, let alone sit at that ideal corner table in the back. However, the wait is well worth it.

Excellent cocktails in elegant and mysterious cave-like den. This is the kind of place where you can tell the bartender drinks you like, ingredients, types of liquor, even tell them you'd want a happy drink that reminds you of summer, and they work their magic to present you with a gift in the form of a nuanced cocktail. These people are mixologists. The environment feels both safe and mysterious at the same time. There was live clazzy jazz later in the evening. I will be back. Check it out, if you can find the place.

Little Branch is a great speakeasy venue. Well hidden, very nondescript. It's all about their mixed drinks. The place is dark and a great place for drinks and conversation. Prices can be up there but the drinks are quality and you won't be having many; they're very strong. They also serve coffee, tea and the like which is a convenient counter to the potent hard drinks.

Little Branch is a speakeasy in the West Village. The entrance is so unassuming, you will easily pass it by unless you're looking for it. How I found it was that there was a bouncer standing by an unmarked door checking for IDs. When you get it you see this hip place, low music playing in the background. There is a lot of chatter from various booths but you can see them because they're below the height of the chair. Drinks are well concocted and are all the same price and it's Cash only. There's a drink list, but it's recommended that you go for the bartender's choice where you tell them your type of spirit and the type of ingredients you want incorporated into the drink. Then, voila they'll serve you up the masterpiece for the evening, complete with a nifty name. You'll have at it, then repeat. Really charming spot and great for dates.
