Traditional snacks at Shanghai Chenghuang Miao or City God Temple. located in the old city of Shanghai. The temple, constructed in Song Dynasty, is a popular tourist attraction for common people in Shanghai. I could still find Chinese traditional snacks here.

The couple at this stall has been selling satay for 20 years.They have moved several times, from a street side stall to a hawker centre and finally to this coffee shop.

My family love the tender and charred pork satay 😝 When the lady boss said they are going to retire, we quickly come to buy some satay, BBQ chicken wings and otak. They also sell nasi lemak wrapped in banana leaves. 😋

这间档口的老板和老板娘卖沙爹卖了二十年。从街边小贩到咖啡店档口,他们都搬迁了好几次。老板二十年来,天天对着热碳炉,烧烤几百支肉串挺辛苦的。

老板娘说她累了,想好好休息出国旅游 🙊 我快快买来吃,免得以后吃不到 😝

沙爹有鸡肉、猪肉、羊肉几种。烤得香味四溢的沙爹蘸着配送的花生沙爹酱吃 😋 吃太多烤肉会热气,老板配送黄瓜片和大葱头,减少油腻感和清肠胃 😄

他们还卖乌打、椰浆饭和烤鸡翅。乌打可以配饭吃或夹面包。

I have to queue for these yummy tau sar piah .... created by a Hainanese who used ingredients in English pastries to make Teochew tau sar piah. 😲👍Thus he created a Singapore-style tau sar piah which won the hearts of his customers in Singapore, the neighbouring regions and as far as USA and Europe.

美味的豆沙饼。。。需要耐心等待,因为得排队。😝
海南阿哥用做西点的食材来做潮州豆沙饼,却意外创造了新加坡式豆沙饼。美味的豆沙饼不止吸引了本地食客,还赢得了外国游客的青睐,有些顾客甚至来自美国和欧洲。😍

Serving traditional Hainanese larp (rice dumplings) and coconut snacks (Yi Buah) to guests on the opening of my nephew‘s dental practice. All homemade, it’s the Hainan tradition to offer larp and Yi Buah to our relatives and friends on joyous occasions. Every guest gets a takeaway of two larps and two Yi Buah. 💝

My nephew who worked in Australia for years before coming back to Singapore, is the rare Hainanese dental surgeon in our Hainan community. 😁

Bitter sweet Mao Shan Wang durians from Bentong. 😍😋

The flesh of two durians was dry to the touch, but one bite into it..... the creamy, thick flesh oozed into my mouth. 🤩 My fingers were still clean after finishing the two "dry flesh" durians.

Next, he picked a durian which has slightly moist flesh. It was bitter sweet and texture is like ice cream. It has small seeds. My fingers were "dirtied" after eating this durian..... but that's when you start licking durian covered fingers one by one 😋🤣🤣
从马国文冬来的猫山王榴莲。我喜欢吃苦的榴莲,店家给我选了三粒。两粒干包,一粒湿包。

榴莲湿包的肉是软软的,微湿,象在吃雪糕。味道比较浓郁,皮薄,核子好小。

干包榴莲的果肉外皮是干干的,特别光滑。一咬下去,它的肉是糯糯软软的,味道是苦甜的。

Lady boss started the stall in 1976. For decades, she starts preparing her yummy yong tau foo at 3 am daily. Her husband was a teacher, he came to help her when he retired. Both are almost 80 years old, yet they are still serving their old school yong tau foo .....

阿嫲1976年开始营业。几十年来每天凌晨3点来档口准备食物。阿公是个老师,退休后来档口帮忙。这对年长夫妇已经快80岁啦,还在默默守着档口。。。。

Both father and son at Heap Seng Leong coffee shop work together, from the early hours of the morning until 7 pm daily. They seldom talk. The son tells his father the drinks that customers ordered, the elderly man makes them.

My hubby makes it a point to visit the elderly hawkers often. Here, we see many elderly men who would eagerly chat with us when they realise we speak dialects.

Our favourite breakfast is steamed kaya butter bread, half boiled eggs and either a cup of black coffee or milk tea. Occasionally we would order their famous Kopi Gu You (Butter Coffee).

Since opening in 1973, this coffee shop has not changed much physically. Time seems to stand still at here ......

我先生不时会探望年老的小贩们,协胜隆是其中之一。两父子从早晨默默工作到晚上七点。除了儿子告诉年老的父亲顾客点什么饮料之外,他们俩很少说话。

来光顾协胜隆的顾客都是乐龄人士,当他们知道我们会讲方言时,他们会拉着我们聊天。😄

来协胜隆就要吃他们的蒸咖椰牛油面包、喝咖啡乌或奶茶。偶尔我们会点一杯牛油咖啡 😊

自1973年开张以来,协胜隆似乎没有任何改变。时间仿佛停留在七十年代 。。。
