They say, "first impressions count", and this couldn't be closer to the truth when it comes to the curb appeal of a home, I don't just mean the home you pour your heart and soul into, it is just as important for a rental or house you want to sell, to have a great first impression.

A few years ago I posted a DIY tutorial on making your own upholstered headboard. At the time I made a simple, plain linen one, today however I wanted to share some patterned inspiration.

Today I want to share a gorgeous home, a bit closer to home, well only 3 hours flight away in Queensland, Australia. Hamptons is a classic, timeless design that is easy to live with and pretty much timeless. It is the perfect style for a grand 'Queenslander' or new build Hamptons style architecture.

I've always said no matter where you live, country, seaside or suburbs, you can evoke a feeling of being anywhere with thoughtful interior and garden design. If you have wonderful memories of holidaying in the Mediterranean then there is nothing to stop you re-creating those memories by adding touches of the Mediterranean with colour, pattern, furniture and the right accessories. Today's house tour is a holiday home that feels as if it could be in the Algarve, yet it is resides in the locales of Florida.

This stunning home epitomises all that a beach house should be with its calm, coastal appeal, yet at the same time it feels sophisticated and its light filled, organic aura must welcome all that visit her. Of course, little coastal touches have been included but far from overdone, this beautiful home is a long way from the humble kiwi beach bach.

Since my little art studio was finished, it has meant an entire shake up of my rather tired deck and "lawn-less" back garden. In fact, I now realise more than ever how the patio/deck and garden definitely need to be an extension of your indoor living. This means a great flow from indoors to outdoors, the style of outdoor furniture, landscaping and those all important finishing touches as seen in the patio and pool area of this Californian home.

A little bit traditional, a little bit modern...

No offence to those who feel a farmhouse should be shabby chic or rustic, a new trend has evolved, a mix of tradition meets contemporary, I call it "modern farmhouse", and it's here to stay. This easy to live with style is not so much a trend but a lifestyle which can easily be adapted to the suburbs.

The photographer of this charming cottage certainly tweaked my interest when I saw this shot, these cute little guys may look a bit apprehensive about posing for this photo, however the next image shows how relaxed they are about their charming home.
