NEW POST: #Beekeeper's calendar - August.

By August, the summer nectar flow has definitely tapered off for most of us. If you haven’t already harvested #honey, it’s time to remove the surplus.

It's also time to prevent robbing by #bees, check for varroa mite. And which #flowers are in bloom this month?  Read our blog post to find out...

Welcome to your new home! Here's one of our photos of our beehive installations in the heart of New York City.

We're bringing gentle but hard-working honeybees to Brooklyn, Staten Island, The Bronx, Queens and Manhattan to help our local ecosystem, pollinate urban gardens and urban farms.

(we're also on Twitter at @nycbeekeeping)

NEW blog post!
Read the "Beekeeper's Calendar: July" by Kellen of Feedback Farms.

Is it time to do a varroa mite check?  How are the honeybees handling the heat?  Which flowers are in bloom now?  Or maybe it's time to extract some honey?

Please share! : )

MORE THAN HONEY, the visually stunning documentary by Oscar-nominated director Markus Imhoof, begins a run at Film Forum in NYC. The film "tackles the vexing issue of why bees, worldwide, are facing extinction."

We're hosting honey tastings with +NYCBeekeeping.org  at select showing of the film. Join us! Click below to learn more.

Today's Washington Examiner includes a piece titled, " #food scare: Not enough #bees to pollinate crops".

The article states that "..one of the nation's leading bee experts said that the federal government doesn't think there are enough of the buzzing #bugs to pollinate America's crops." and that we have 2.5 million hives today vs. 6 million hives in 1947 when the U.S. population was half today's size.

Feel free to share this link...

"According to Greek mythology, the god of love Eros dipped his arrows into honey before shooting them."  A great story on the fragrant honey produced by the #bees in #greece
