Which top trainer has lost with his last 60 Handicap Chasers at Cheltenham?
Happy New Year!! I know, I know. It's been a while. As usual the family visiting duties consumed me in the early part of the year and as much as Mrs NTF and I try and fight it we do have to make an appearance every now and then with the extended family. This year we even managed to mix it in with a short trip to Iceland (lovely place, incredibly expensive and bizarrely, slightly warmer than Scotland when we were there?!?!). Anyway I’m back on ‘...

The one horse to take out of the Caspian Caviar Gold Cup...
What we learned from the weekend? That it's going to take something very special to beat Douvan this season!! Willie Mullins' 6yo won as he liked on Sunday and once Paul Townend engaged second gear the race was over. A simple flick of the switch and the race as a contest was finished. Easy. Job done.

Is Many Clouds the new Red Rum...
If you want to introduce a newbie to the National Hunt game then just sit them down in front of a recording of last weekend's Tingle Creek Chase! What. A. Race! I'm not sure exactly what it is about the two mile blitz around Sandown but Tingle Creek's time after time produce barn-storming finishes and last weekend's renewal wasn't any different.

A track where the Paul Nicholls chasers dominate...
This National Hunt season just continues to build! Last weekend we had... Cue Card sauntering to his third Betfair Chase in commanding style. Coneygree making a satisfactory (?) return in the same race. Yanworth digging out a battling win over the dogged Lil Rockerfeller in the Coral Hurdle. Sire De Grugy showing he's still got a fire burning by landing a valuable Ascot handicap pot. Nichols Canyon smashing the opposition in the Morgiana Hu...

Why Bristol De Mai disappointed at Carlisle...
Now we are cooking! The Charlie Hall Chase may have served up a disappointing (?) performance from Cue Card and a somewhat surprising (?) victory from Irish Cavalier but nevertheless it's always a race that tells us the jumping game is well and truly back and stoked up for the season ahead. And with that in mind it’s time to keep those fires stoked with this weeks…

Kerry National 1-2 landed on the blog today!
It appears it's that time of year already! Time for the beast of a race that is the Kerry National. 18 runners set to duel it out through the Listowel mud at 4.20pm today in search of the 100k+ pot. As usual I’ve ripped into the race with my tried and tested Dosage and Trends analysis as I try yet again to nail the winner of this tricky b@st@rd of a race!

Kempton stats to help you profit from the Christmas period...
What we learned from the weekend? That you can't see much racing through thick fog?!? So I'm going to dispense with my usual Tuesday blog post and instead of looking back at the racing just past I'm going to look forward to the racing that's just over the Christmas Day bump; Kempton's fantastic two day King George VI Chase meeting.

How to profit from the Willie Mullins chasing newbies...
The Hennessy Gold Cup at Newbury is probably one of my favorite handicaps of the season. The large field and end to end gallop involving a large slice of second season staying chasers makes it a fantastic race to get involved in from a punting perspective and an even better one from a viewing perspective.

How serious a Gold Cup player is Valseur Lido?
We may still be suffering from faster than expected ground, resulting in smaller fields and multiple non-runners, but boy was that a jam packed weekend of racing just past! I could barely catch my breath on Saturday! Rain did materialise at some tracks over the weekend although there must be a worry that we go from fast ground to frozen ground now, if the coming forecast is to be believed! Best not panic yet though as if there's one thing we can...

Three well-handicapped National Hunt horses you need on your side this season...
It has well and truly begun. The behind the scenes work has shifted momentum and I’m now started to be consumed by NTF, all day and all night! There isn’t all that much left, on the race analysis front, for Badly Drawn Horse (BDH), and as such I’m deeply (very deeply) engrossed in reviewing and updating my National Hunt notes.

Three up and coming National Hunt jockeys you need on you radar...
The top of the National Hunt jockey's table has already settled into a familiar format. Richard Johnson sits top of the pile, stealing a march on the others as he attempts to stride onward and upward towards back-to-back championships. Sam Twiston-Davies & Aidan Coleman have renewed their battle for the runners-up spot...
