Check out Morgan taking her 1st steps in her new L rear limb prosthesis. She was born without a paw on that leg, but it hasn't slowed her down. We have been working with her for several months to learn exercises to help her adjust to her new prosthetic device when she was big enough to cast. She is 8 months old now and her prosthesis will help to keep her pelvis and spine properly balanced for her long term health. We are so excited for all that she has ahead of her!

Look at what our friends at OrthoPets are up to now!
Even though our most common patients are dogs, we help all kinds of animals! Baby is a Macaw that is currently with Tallgrass Parrot Sanctuary, Inc. She was neglected and suffered damage to her limbs that resulted in her having no use of her talons and caused her to walk on her tarsi directly. This is very difficult as she is not able to perch and must be kept on softer surfaces. We worked with the sanctuary on some custom boots for her that will allow her to stand on a soft surface at all times. Baby was just has been adjusting well. The sweater she has keeps her covered as she had plucked out all of her feathers in the past. You can read all about Baby's story here:

How would your pets vote on this? Would the science hold true?
An interesting functional MRI study in a small group of pet dogs showed that most dogs respond to praise at least as much, if not more than, food. How do you think your dog would choose?

The study also showed that a dog’s brain responds more strongly to the scents of familiar humans than to the scents of other humans, or even to those of familiar dogs.

Good information for Animal Pain Awareness Month!
Pain in animals may not be easy to identify, but it is crucial to report signs of pain to a veterinarian as soon as possible. Pain is a signal that something is wrong. The sooner pain can be detected, the sooner the problem can be treated. Call your veterinarian if your pet is displaying the following behaviors:

Our Piglet, one of our favorite patients!
Piglet is a wonderful little girl from Michigan who works with our partner clinic Pawsitive Steps Rehabilitation & Therapy for Pets. Piglet is using her snazzy new Stifle orthosis, and was one of our first patients to receive the new Pink Skulls transfer option! Piglet is one lucky dog to have such great owners who are dedicated to her health.
