It’s International Women’s Day today. We think women the world over have a right to good contraception and sexual health services. That’s the focus of XES - We Can’t Go Backwards, our campaign with Brook that aims to improve sexual health services in the UK.

UK faces staggering rise in unintended pregnancy and STIs. Our new report, Unprotected Nation, says short sighted efficiency savings could add more than £600 million to NHS costs by 2020 unless access to contraception and sexual health services improves. A study last week said there has been a decrease in the diagnoses of pubic lice because more people are shaving and waxing their pubic hair. However, you do not need to shave off your pubic hair to treat lice. Read more about the signs, symptoms and treatment of pubic lice and scabies on our website: http://ow.ly/gZ5KR

Sexual health isn’t just about contraception and STIs. It’s about women, men, relationships & sex education, sexual pleasure, supporting people with learning disabilities, LGB & T rights, abortion rights & choices, young people, older people and so much more. And you don’t have to work in sexual health to nominate for the UK Sexual Health Awards 2013. Anyone can do it. Read a good article? Know a great campaign? Saw a TV show with a storyline focused on a sexual health issue? Nominate today. It’s your last chance. Nominations close midnight tonight. If you have a question about nominations, please ask in the comments below.

We're really excited to announce that comedian Kate Smurthwaite is hosting the UK Sexual Health Awards 2013. Kate's a strong advocate of women's rights and we're really pleased to have her on board for this brilliant evening. Don't forget, it's not too late to get tickets! http://bit.ly/SHUKtickets

It’s cervical cancer prevention week this week. Did you know that 99% of all cases of cervical cancer are caused by the high-risk type of HPV (Human papilloma virus)? There are more than 100 types of HPV. Low risk types cause genital warts. To protect against warts and cervical cancer, it’s recommended that girls aged 12-13 are vaccinated. Read more about HPV on our website: http://www.fpa.org.uk/helpandadvice/hpvvaccine

A new film called The Sessions shows a man with a severe physical disability having sex - something that might be seen as controversial. We think it’s really important to challenge taboos around sex and learning and/or physical disability. Our 2008 campaign called “It’s My Right” fought for the sexual rights of people with learning disabilities. http://ow.ly/gR8s4 We also work with people with learning and physical disabilities and with young people with autistic spectrum disorders. Relationships and sex is something everyone has a right to.

Want to help parents and carers talk to children about growing up? Speakeasy is a relaxed and informal way for mums, dads and carers to get the confidence and knowledge they need to talk to children and young people about relationships and sex. As a facilitator, you’ll help others learn how to have those conversations. Read more about being a facilitator. The next facilitator course is on 23- 24th April 2013 in London.
