As any landscape photographer knows, it's hard to beat Oregon's Columbia Gorge for waterfall photography. A few years back, I got to see the area for myself and had a blast while hiking, photographing and generally playing in the rain! One of my favorite hikes during my visit was along the trail following Eagle Creek. The first overlook on that trail afforded a view of beautiful Metlako Falls and I was treated to some fleeting backlit conditions that made this one of my favorite images of the trip.

It's been a wet winter in the Desert Southwest and that's a good thing. And more is on its way! One thing I like about all this wet weather is that it fills all the sandstone potholes that can be found around Sedona with water. That makes for great reflection opportunities for us landscape photographers! Here is one such scene that I shot in the Munds Mountain Wilderness area not far from town a few weeks ago. This particular pool nicely reflects some of the red rock spires of the Crimson Cliffs.

I caught this reflection of Hesperus Peak in Colorado's La Plata Mountains last summer. In order to capture this, I had to wade out into this mucky, stinky cesspool of a pond out to my waist in order to get past the reeds on the shoreline. I can still smell the stench...worth it though!

We had a winter storm blow through Sedona on Christmas Eve which made for the first white Christmas I've seen in my six years living here. Here's an image of Bell Rock basking in the newly fallen snow on Christmas morning.

Hey everyone! My name is Guy and I'm a photog based out of Sedona, Arizona. Coming back to Google+ after being away for a couple of years and getting used to the new world here...lots of things have changed! The accompanying image is from my hometown.

After a long hiatus from Google+, I'm back! Don't know if I have any followers anymore, but what can I expect after being away for a couple of years. Anyway, I'll kick off a new post with an image I took this last fall in Colorado's San Juan Mountains. It was a great year for fall color in the San Juans as this scene near the Dallas Divide illustrates.

The weather was very undesert-like last week in Arizona as a rather large storm system kept us cool, cloudy and very wet for a number of days. There was a definite Pacific Northwest feel in the air. A cold front came through the area during the latter half of the storm and dropped a bit of snow in the canyons north of Sedona. That triggered me to drive up to West Fork Canyon where I found the West Fork of Oak Creek raging with all the storm runoff. With a coating of snow on the trees, the sights were nothing short of spectacular.

Here in Sedona, we had the great fortune to ring in the New Year with the clearing of a winter storm that dropped over a foot of snow in some areas. It was a magical day that began with this shot of Oak Creek reflecting the surrounding red rock cliffs at Slide Rock State Park just as the storm began to break up.

I had the pleasure to witness quite spectacular late day conditions yesterday along the Lower Salt River (east of Phoenix). The sun only made an appearance for 10 minutes, but when it finally poked out from underneath the cloud deck it was intense. That also led to some spectacular post sunset conditions. Believe it or not, the sky was far more incredible behind me a few minutes later! The rugged Goldfield Mountains provided the imposing backdrop for this scene. I still can't get over that you can continue to find fall colors in Arizona at the end of the year!
