Earlier this month I was commissioned by LEGO AFOL Community Team Manager Kevin Hinkle to create Brick Sketches of each member of the AFOL Relations & Programs team!

From left to right:
Tanja Friberg- Senior Manager, AFOL Relations & Programs Team
Kevin Hinkle – Community Manager
Ana Albouy – Community Operations Specialist
Jan Beyer – Community Manager
Jacky Chen – Community Manager
Kim Thomsen – Community Manager

It was a fantastic challenge. As some of you may know, I tend to shy away from unmasked faces in my Brick Sketches. This experience helped me get over that fear and develop new approaches to eyes, cheeks, and other facial features. Ultimately, I hope I've found a sweet spot between realism and caricature that will let me create more 'unmasked' faces in future Brick Sketches!

So funny! I love how you put Scooby Doo on top of the triceratops. Did you get the triceratops from the Lego Dino sets?

Need to get a plate off a tiled surface, but don't want to remove a swath of tiles to do so? Try using part 62462 (Tube W/Double Ø4.85). It has more clutch than a brick or plate, and can make quick work of pulling up the unwanted plate! #lego

+Pedro Peguero Jr. That's exactly right. You can take the time and effort to order the bricks yourself from a half dozen resellers on Bricklink. My guides are distributed free of charge, and I don't pressure anyone to pay me for bricks.

That said, I cannot produce free guides on a continuing basis without some form of compensation. I have rent to pay, and from time to time, I should probably eat! So I offer custom building kits, allowing people to support me directly.

A building kit is worth more than the sum of its parts. It takes a great deal of time to design a model, part it out, enter it into a spreadsheet, locate sellers with sufficient stock, place brick orders, receive and sort the parts into kits, double-count the kits, and package them up, My building guides are also laid out page by page, like a magazine. I don't have a magic button that does any of this work – there's a lot of mind-numbing clerical work that goes into making all of this happen. And I am just one person with a part-time assistant.

But getting back to what I said earlier, I don't oblige anyone to pay me for my custom building kits. If you want to support my work by making a purchase, that's awesome. If you don't think it's worth the asking price, well, that's fine, too. Ultimately, it's a personal choice. I can only hope that my 150+ free building guides sufficiently demonstrate that my priority is sharing (and not selling) my work.

Introduction
Once upon a time, I was born. Then I grew up and did some stuff, and some people even thought I was cool. You know, for like eight minutes. That was fun.
