We are over the moon here as it is great that here in the French Countryside they are looking outside the box as well as were just asked the other day by a chef to order him four cases of the 360° Savignon Blanc after he tasted it at one of our 'Braais' here in the Loire.

2017 will see us bring a few more French Culinary Adventurrs to Le Calabash at Zevenwacht Wine Estate, Stellenbosch South Africa.

Today we are making Soufflés here at le Calabash with our ‪#‎culinaryadventurers‬ using one of our absolute favorite local ingredients : Saint Maures de Touraine Goat's Cheese. This renowned cheese is protected under an AOC status.

The cheese was first made way back during the Arab invasion of France, when the Arabs introduced goats to this region of France. After the defeat at Poitiers, lots of the Moorish soldiers stayed in the country and moved up north in the search for hospitable land.

They say that the Arabic women, abandoned after the defeat at Poitiers, taught the inhabitants of the region how to make this cheese. Proven by archaeological evidence, small herds of goats were present in Touraine well before the 8th century.

There is even a Sainte Maure "Commanderie de Fromage" that started in 1972, which SIdney was knighted into. This Commanderie strives to promote la Touraine and all of it's ingredients, especially this delicious cheese.
