Human Evaluators and Relevancy Ranking at Google
Google doesn't use human evaluators to help rank Web search results, (according to Matt Cutts), but do they use them to help rank Local Search Results? (Would Matt tell us if they did?)
A newly granted Google Patent explores how relevancy determinations between queries and businesses by humans might be used to develop a statistical model that could be used, with other signals, to rank local search results.
We don't know if the process described in the patent is one that Google may have used in the past (it was originally filed in 2005), but it provides one possible approach from Google.
