I'm still trying to figure this thing out. Maybe I'm missing something, but the whole circles thing seems to conflate two completely distinct concepts -- privacy and relevancy.

This is my second google+ post. Like my first one, I don't really care who sees it, so I made it public. I didn't explicitly send it to any circles, because it's not private data.

But, the subject matter of my first post was not anything my wife cares about, so it showed up in her stream.

If google has any sense, they'll soon be disentangling these concepts somewhat, or at least better explaining how to separate them.

I would suggest adding some tagging capabilities, with the capability for author-defined tagging categories, and the capability for readers to block/unblock author/tag combinations they don't care about.

True, it does seem that at the moment you can only filter by who is saying something and not what they are saying, it's as if you would need to know what all of your friends are interested in before hand and only post to the respective circles. Maybe they will merge some of the sparks functionality into the streams. Might get the best of both worlds without any extra work that way.

Also (to elaborate on a comment I made on somebody else's post), I think that it would be great if google let you do fancy operations on circles. Circles should be able to include other circles, should be able to exclude other circles, etc. This way, instead of explicitly moving people around to lots of different circles, you can put several individuals into a category that is then reused in several metacategories, and you can add a new contact to multiple categories by adding him in one place.
