"When a self-defeating mindset exists at the top, CEOs need to open their eyes to other ways of dealing with dilemmas. Working with a leader coach, they can learn to focus on hiring employees with the functional skills needed to move a business forward rather than wasting time worrying about not having them." Himanshu Saxena (Ivey Business Journal)

About 1 month ago, while working with my Coach, we identified self-care as one of the areas that has fallen through the cracks. How can I fly like an eagle if I am not looking after myself.

Taking time off to be with family and in a relaxing setting offered me the ideal solution. It was only 4 days but the impact was like I'd been off for a month. Lots of sleep, walks, fresh air recharged my batteries.

Although I know taking care of myself is important for a successful business, it took my coach's insights to remind me to recognize what I was ignoring.

Are you taking care of yourself so you can produce the best in your career or business? Want to know more on coaching bit.ly/IgniteResults

Happy Earth Day. As a business owner I have continually integrated efforts to reduce, reuse and renew the resources in my business. I have also integrated donations and volunteering in a way that is attached to revenues.

In today's marketplace, I believe every business needs to step up and add value to the community they live and work in. No lip service allowed. I encourage every business to set specific sustainability & community engagement goals that are measurable and then report on their progress. Customers today are savvy consumers and they appreciate this transparency and the earth will thank you! http://ow.ly/LYqt6 Happy Earth Day 2015

At the Women's Executive Network Vancouver event last week, one panelist stated a key role of a #leader is "to absorb the stress in the room" and help others to remain calm, focused and moving forward.

The next question was (obviously), how do you relieve your own stress, particularly if you take on the stress of others. Panelists were unanimous that good leaders must make time for themselves in their day to de-stress and rejuvenate.

I have three quick question for you ... do you take time every day for yourself? If you do what do you do & why? If not, why not?

"It comes from saying no to 1,000 things to make sure we don't get on the wrong track or try to do too much. We're always thinking about new markets we could enter, but it's only by saying no that you can concentrate on the things that are really important."

I'm curious? Do you review the systems you use? By systems I mean the steps taken to get things done, the tools used (such as software or checklists). I have just spent some time stepping back and looking at what tools are available and what I do now and compared that to what I want to be doing. It was interesting.

I realized I have some amazing tools and systems in place. Some are used to capacity and allow me to run things like a well oiled machine. Others are ok but don't "communicate" with other systems and that's a bottleneck for me - taking time and money from my purse. Then I have others I rarely use but recognized that they are incredibly powerful and its time to kick them into gear!

I agree with Arlene Dickinson from Dragons Den, "There is no ''best way'' to stay organized. The secret to organization is to finding a system that works best for you."

Taking a more strategic look (an eagle's eye view) at what systems you have and the results they deliver can offer some interesting feedback. You may be shocked at what you find when you do this. As you do so, you may also want to consider how systems integrate with each other (or not) and really think about if they work for you. Are they making life simpler? Are they saving you time and money? Are they improving your ability to deliver superior service to customers?

As part of your "spring cleaning" I encourage you to take stalk of your systems and make changes that will help you get more done in less time and work for you.
