In this months contribution, Danny Maland imparts some crucial, yet easy to implement advice that can make a huge difference in the effectiveness of your marketing. stevebassettband (1) That picture up there is from a night I recently worked alongside The Steve Bassett Band.

In this month's contribution from our resident audio-human, Danny Maland shifts the perspective from “assigning blame” to “harnessing power”. An important distinction if you want to make it big in this business… As has often been my tendency on this site, I am straying away from production tech ...

Here's an article about how musicians and audio tech can work together better.
In this month's installment from my favorite audio-human, Danny Maland expands on his explanation of balancing your live sound and how to use that as a tool against incompetent (or inexperienced) audio techs. I didn't originally think of this as a companion piece to my article on sounding ...

If you don't have big money to make a big budget video, consider making a lyric video to bring your song to life! There are essentially a couple low-cost ways to create a lyric video- DIY or hire someone at a reasonable indie musician rate. DIY. If you're a techy person with a good eye, ...

Here's an inspiring article from Danny Maland about taking ownership of the stage… Back in June, the band Advent Horizon came through my regular gig. They're in the “mind-blowingly good” category. There's certainly a lot of excellent musicianship to be had, but there's something else.

Hey Carlos ! This is an absolutely awesome article ! It really will help me
in my return to the stage after I have my back operation ! I am a little
nervous about it, but I plan on practicing every day during my recovery &
practice with my band mates till we are tight as a drum ! I've already
called practices to start next week. I am fortunate to have a friend as my
drummer & we've worked together for years ! We are still looking for
musicians to complete the "Amy Rose Band", but I told him that should not
stop he & I from practicing our asses off so that we know what we are doing
& can hold things together if problems arise ! Thanks for posting your
article & thanks for being YOU ! Always thinking about us musicians who
maybe haven't performed for a while, & are a bit older than most. I've been
performing for 25 years, but being out of it for about 5 years, I feel like
I'm starting from scratch ! I am and always have been terrified of trying
to promote myself & get gigs ! I am lucky to have a friend to help me, but
there are some local places that I would like to go to myself. If U have
any advice about approaching club owners & venue managers, I would love to
read it. I'm sure you've already written about this & I missed it ! I'm
sure U have a link. Thanks so much, gotta practice, luv Amy Rose !

Welcome to this month's contribution from my favorite audio-human, Danny Maland, of The Small Venue Survivalist. In this entry he explains some of the foundational preparation you must put into your live show. Take heed! This guy knows what he's talking about. I'm ambivalent about the current ...

Good post. I normally don't eat dairy, as I aim to eat mostly what is on the diet from the EatRight4YourType system. My blood type especially dictates no dairy (I know it sounds wack - at least look at the EatRight4YourType system before you dismiss it). Last night, I was singing at a jazz gig. I had a cupcake with a dairy icing on it. Sure enough (about four bars before I had to sing) I had to leave the stage and get my ginger ale (I know -  should have had it up there with me). It didn't completely wash down the dairy-thickened mucous), but it got me through the song. Next time - no dairy.
