Wings Ahoy!!!! Today we focussed on the wings of the bird sculpture we are working on. Everyone worked really hard, weaving black electric chord and attaching the white half of the hair shavers with cable ties. We wanted the look of feathers and I think we got pretty close. The wings are much much heavier and we have just got started. This weekend we rest and then Monday, let the games begin again :) Life is good, but I am glad that it is the weekend :)

Testing our new chandelier. We installed the lights in our new chandelier, for our KZNSA Exhibition in July. We want the piece to look like a burning ember. Chuffed with the results.

Welding Rods Arrive- 100 welding roads arrived yesterday at our Studio, for the Bulwer Park Community Public Sculpture Project. George Holloway and Ernest are on their way to Durban this weekend and they will start to weld the bird armature. Looking forward to it taking shape and will post regular updates.

Ernest (Bhekazi Ngcobo) hard at work. Today Ernest performed magic and our huge Pine Nut Vulture started to really take shape. You always know someone is good at what they do, when welding rods look soft in their hands and seem to bend and be shaped so effortlessly. Tomorrow we start helping Ernest clean up the piece. The joins have to be chipped clean and then we coat the framework and on goes the wire mesh/ bonnox layer. After that we start preparing the non-compliant materials and attaching them with cable ties. Lots of hard work, drinking of tea and perhaps a small amount of gossiping to be done. Life is good and very busy :)

The Friendly Fence Grows. We are starting to add new components to the Bulwer Park Friendly Fence. On June 15th we are having a workshop with Durban Girls College to make additional pieces, with a group of their students. We will share images of this and the other developments around the fence project.
