I found this writen by a new school role player. I really enjoy his blog and actually think he is more a GM of a similar stripe even if he prefers new school games - cool diversity is wonderful. He has explained better then anyone why I love OSR or any old fashion rpg and why for the most part I'm totally over the "special-unique-snowflake-mentality" of the new school.

"The core D20 system is dated as all hell. Nothing can prepare you for the soul-crushing despair of waiting 20 mins for your turn, fluffing your attack roll, and knowing there is NOTHING you can do about it – no re-rolls, no resources to spend, not even an impression that your failure impacted upon the game world in any way. Moreover, the fact that a party of supposed adventuring heroes can critically fail every action they take 5% of the time is a bizarre tonal disconnect, and is as responsible as anything else for making the stakes in a D20 game feel comedic and trivial". michaelduxbury.com

To be crystal clear, I LOVE creating a game out of not being able to hit, yes like him I'm not a 5e'r either so I'll mostly agree with the 20min for your turn thing as another thing. I love OSR and the speed of resolution. Not having resources for rerolling, and having to "put up with" just being a "normal" person with the odds stacked against me is the game. Thinking my way through that, navigating my way to success and yet still at deaths door at a moments notice is the same enjoyment for me as a good Game of Thrones episode ( or much better pov chapter in the Song of ice and fire :> )

Here it is, folks - The MCC RPG Gen Con game schedule. Come visit exotic and remote ruins, meet new and interesting mutants, and kill them.

Every time I start to think my really nerdy minority hobby is cool - something happens to make me think "funk, guys there are like only a few Thousand of us in the fist place and we all like the same stuff, cut a brother a break". But some asshole with an EGO and an agenda all ways turns up and does a huge EGO DUMP all over his bothers "FOR HIS OWN SELF AGGRANDISEMENT". I swear we role players will screw up our own hobby and send it backwards into our parents basements and away from the light of broad supportive community all because at our core we are riddled by culturally maladjusted, socially anxious, fascist pseudo-intellectuals.

I'm seriously thinking of giving up all other role playing systems and just use OD&D...

See also Delta's "Stones" encumbrance rules. In essence your stat value a character's maximum "very heavy/armored load" (6" move rate)

I'm really still not certain on my system change over. We are back to S&WC and of couse I'm happy with that on one level. On another I'm wondering if trying out Torchbearer, Fantasy Age, Heroes of Magnumund, even Dragon Warriors would be fun too. I'm sure they would be but what fits best? Sigh soooo many games so little time 🤓

This is a map done for a challenge (theme : map a novel). I picked up the Elder Isles from Jack Vance's Lyonesse Trilogy.
