I parked here for half an hour, and had my car broken into. They chose the single most expensive window to break, and ignored my GPS, preferring to steal my backpack with all my wedding clothes in it. This was break daylight, on Division Ave (a major street). So only come here if you are looking for trouble.

We had our wedding there. It was a small ceremony with about 20 guests. I signed the contract a few months back. Maybe I didn't read the contract well enough, but I had it rented for one hour, for $200. They would not let us in the door one minute earlier than our slotted time, even to set up the chairs, even though there wasn't anyone in there and nothing was going on. When I reserved the spot, I was told the chairs would be set up for us, but they weren't, and we had to ask our guests to help us set up their own chairs. The few ladies working there were very cold to us and acted like they did not want us there. All they did was walk around telling everyone what not to do. "don't stand here, don't touch this, the gift shop is closed, please get out" (why didn't you shut the door, then?) They were just not nice. They reminded us repeatedly as we were taking pictures afterwards how much time we had left before we had to leave. And they were pushing carts around and working with the plants even during the hour that I had allotted, which I paid for, and they should have stayed out of our way. It was an absolutely beautiful place to have our small ceremony. The plants and flowers were perfect for pictures. There is a little walkway that I walked down and was able to hide from my groom before the ceremony so he didn't see me. It was quite perfect in that way. I would recommend getting pictures taken here, but if you're going to have more than 15-20 people present for the ceremony, then it's not the place for you. And hopefully if you do decide to have your ceremony here, they will have hired different caretakers that are actually polite. It really created a lot of unnecessary stress for me, as I watched all of my guests waiting outside the locked doors at 2 minutes till our ceremony was about to start, as I was on the phone talking to the caretakers inside, refusing to unlock the doors. Our day would have been perfect otherwise.

So many cool plants and flowers. Especially lovely on wintery days (warm and colourful).

I love this little conservatory in Volunteer Park. It's fun to go inside on a rainy day, and get a taste of a warm and humid climate. It's got a very old-world feel.
