Today is National Skip the Straw Day! Did you know in the United States alone we use more than 500 million plastic straws a day? Unfortunately, most don’t end up being recycled and often times become litter and pollute the Bay and its wildlife. Consider protecting the Bay and Skip the Straw every day! Here are a few ways you can help: Skip the straw when you order a drink; ask your favorite restaurant to serve straws upon request only; and purchase a reusable straw. For more info visit www.BayAreaRecycling.org

Bet you didn’t know that February is National Return Shopping Carts to the Supermarket month! So in honor of this occasion, we’d like to remind our community that if you see a stray shopping cart, you can report it. Most large retailers in Fremont subscribe to a private retrieval service to periodically pick up their carts, but these services also accept calls from the public. So if you see a stray cart, please give them a call. For a list of retailers and phone numbers, visit Fremont.gov/ShoppingCartList.
