That political party effect is one of the hugest effects I've ever observed--and an unsurprising one at that.
Nevertheless, when we account for party affiliation we see a status effect for democrats. This is the surprising and interesting effect to me because it occurs among a fairly homogenous group of powerful and wealthy individuals. The results suggest that relative rank matters.
Also, if Republicans were a little more diverse I bet we'd see the same pattern as in Democrats, at least in terms of race and gender.
