Sea Coast Shout-Outs! - Part of our mission statement here at Sea Coast Staffing is to “Be involved in the local business community, supporting mutually beneficial relationships between our clients, candidates and business colleagues.”  And as a result of that involvement we have had the privilege of getting to know many amazing and talented people.  Since we are always ones to celebrate and break out the Chardonnay, we wanted to give a few shout-outs this week to some of our amazing collea...

Social Media Rants - Given that this is – how shall I put it? – a somewhat controversial election year, it seemed like a good time to go over a little social media etiquette and how your on-line antics can jeopardize your job search.  Now, I’m a big fan of the First Amendment and all that it entails, but I’m not sure that our Founding Fathers took into account Facebook, Twitter and YouTube when they wrote it. For those of you who haven’t read it in a while, the amendment as adopted in 1791 ...

Don’t Be A Minimalist At Work - There is a minimalist trend going on right now and it’s invading every nook and cranny of our society. In July, an article in The New York Times Magazine described it “… like a bright algae bloom in the murk of postrecession America. From tiny houses to microapartments to monochromatic clothing to interior-decorating trends — picture white walls interrupted only by succulents — less now goes further than ever.”  Now I’m all for paring down your wardrobe and d...

Direct Hire Gains Momentum - This time last year Sea Coast Staffing opened a Direct Hire Division. With the economy improving and unemployment numbers dropping, we anticipated a need for longer-term staffing options for our clients. It was a leap of faith (like everything else we do – let’s be honest) but it was definitely the right thing to do. The unemployment rate for Wilmington in June of this year – 4.9% – matches that of the rest of the country. In 2013 when we opened our office, the ...

Third Year’s the Charm - Sea Coast Staffing is celebrating our third year of business this week.   Three years… 1,095 days…   26,280 hours… 1,576,800 minutes since we took a leap of faith and opened our doors for business. Alexis had been in the recruiting world for over 25 years (clearly she must have started when she was ten years old), but it was just three years ago that the stars aligned and she decided to start her own business. Her years of experience, combined with her “Pied-Piper” ...

The WOW Factor - man pushes his girlfriend in wheelbarrow in the garden If you drive around Wilmington this Saturday, April 23, 2016, you may be surprised to see a lot of people raking leaves, painting doors and hammering nails. It’s the annual Work on Wilmington (WOW) day, when hundreds of volunteers donate their time and energy to a variety of service projects throughout our community. For the last ten years, the Wilmington community has come together for 4 hours once a year to make Wilmi...

Bloom Where You Are Planted - Wilmington’s Azalea Festival is this weekend – YAY!! – and Sea Coast Staffing is oh-so-proud to be a sponsor for this year’s event. Look for our wonderful team in their azalea pink polo shirts with our Sea Coast Staffing logo. They may help you park your car, get a drink at the Garden Party, take your concert ticket, or clear away your plate at the Patron’s Party. We are thrilled to be a part of this year’s festivities and honored to be a sponsor for such a lon...

Steering As You Go - “You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes.   You can steer yourself any direction you choose. You’re on your own. And you know what you know. And YOU are the one who’ll decide where to go…” – Dr. Seuss A favorite gift to give high school and college graduates is the book, “Oh, the Places You’ll Go!” by Dr. Seuss. It’s a children’s book but one with an inspirational (and, of course, rhyming – it IS Dr. Seuss, after all) message for children and adults al...
