If you live in Virginia Beach, Norfolk or Chesapeake OBI Karate is easily accessible to you!

We are expanding our Dojo to its original location. The school will be about 2600 sq ft and will be dedicated to the instruction of Traditional Okinawan Karate-do. We like to say, "We teach karate in the manner it was intended".

What we have seen over the course of the last 20 years is an movement towards watered down karate training. Most of the schools are teaching what I can only describe as Dance or Gymnastics with karate like movements. Last year I was at a camp in DC and one of the instructors said "It may look like Karate, but it ain't Karate" but to understand this statement you would have to be actually studying Karate.

If you are thinking of taking Karate, or are currently enrolled in another school be it Karate , Tae Kwon Do or something else you are invited to visit - see the difference.

But if you like playing, jumping and looking like something from a HollyWood movie then we may not be what you are looking for ( just being fair ), and if your only interest is wearing a black belt in a few months or even a year again we just may not be your cup of tea!!

Follow Okinawan Budo International. This is a group that promotes Okinawan Karate, and is affiliated with Shorin-ryu Shorinkan.

The head of the group is 8th Dan Noel Smith who has been studying Okinawan Shorin-ryu "Kobsyashi-te" for 50 years this January.

Regardless of where you are located, if you are interested in becoming a member dojo in the Shorinkan simply email us at OBIBUDO@GMAIL.com

Sincerely,
Noel Smith

OBI Virginia Beach Karate school, we are one of the OLDEST Martial art schools in the Tidewater area.   Sensei Noel Smith established the Dojo in 1968 and has been teaching Okinawan Shorin-ryu in the manner it was taught to him ever since.
