I come here for the food trucks. There are usually just one or two trucks there (or sometimes booths), so it's not anything like the Portland food truck/cart scene, but they rotate so there's some variety (they tend to be pricey but some are reasonable), and, unlike Portland, there are plenty of picnic tables to sit at and get some sun while you're waiting or eating. There's also a bar and hot dog place built-in, a good coffee shack adjacent, and a dog park, and some kind of bean bag tossing game, so in the evening especially it's a happening place, but I prefer the afternoon when it's emptier and I can enjoy the sun.

I like any bookstore, independent bookstores even more, a scifi bookstore is really cool, focusing on scifi and mysteries is pretty unique, and the execution is excellent - nice layout and appearance, lots of goodies like geeky t-shirts, frequent signings and other book events, and friendly enthusiastic staff.

I like to stop here in the afternoon for a sandwich and coffee, good food and reasonably priced (especially for that area), nice place to hang out a bit.

This is a great place to drop by and get my coffee and cat fix (I had cats for sixteen years, but I'm in a small studio right now). The new cookies are a nice addition, and the coffee is good. If the cat area is crowded you can just sit at the tables outside until it clears up, but weekdays are usually not too busy. If you're a cat person, you already know this, but they're not like dogs, so be patient - just hang out and let them get to know you, enjoy the new wall murals, bring a book or laptop...and check out their web site, it's got a pretty good history of cat cafes.

This place is a delight. When you see the funky Humble Heart van in the parking lot, you can tell this isn't a run-of-the-mill thrift store. It's jam-packed with stuff, records on the wall, an impressive room full of books in the back, and you can get some coffee or ice cream from the little cafe while listening to Led Zeppelin. It's a family run operation, with proceeds going to charity, so even if you don't buy anything, consider donating.

Convenient to the Central Library (although I wish they opened later, as they close at 5pm), this is a cozy place (I've seen some lines, but usually not crowded) with very good coffee (in a nice big cup) and nice furniture and decor. The sandwiches are OK, haven't tried the pastries.

This and Nordstroms are the two places I regularly frequent at Hortons Plaza. Pretty sizeable store (especially considering it's in a mall) and good selection (they always have the issues authored by my sister - Amy Chu, check her out), and most of their recommendations have been on the mark.
