Then it hit me. There is something not to love about custom draperies. It’s the one thing that almost everyone who wants custom draperies doesn’t know how to do, but should…and that’s how to properly measure your ceiling heights and window dimensions for drapery panel width, length, and rod fitting. I mean, is there anything more nerve wrecking then trying to figure that out and make sure your calculations are right?!! It’s not like we’re the ones making the drapes, and probably have never had to measure such things before. Besides, many of us don’t know our way around a sewing machine anyway, so what would we know about finished lengths?
As I left Curtain Call, I realized that something must be done about this. So I’ve created a cheat sheet, so to speak, to assist those of you who may be considering custom draperies. This way, you’ve got something to take with you on your drapery consultations. Even if you can’t complete the calculations for your finished lengths and widths, you’ll at least be able to provide accurate measurements of your windows and ceiling heights for an accurate estimate of yardage and labor from your seamstress.
