Our White’s tree frogs, Rupert and Mr Frog, are amphibians native to Australia and Papua New Guinea, where they are found in a range of habitats from swamps and forests to grasslands. Their excellent camouflage means that they can sometimes be difficult to spot, but be sure that they are closely watching you!

Today is World Wetlands Day!

Wetlands are incredibly important habitats, home to a wide range of animals and plants - and they may also safeguard human populations against natural disasters and extreme weather.

Our otters, Zippy and Bonnie, are small-clawed otters, a species that lives in the wetlands of Southeast Asia. Sadly one of their largest threats is habitat destruction, which has lead to a 30% population decline in the last 30 years.

This February half term, Banham Zoo will be focussing on how we can do our bit to save species and their habitats in our special event ‘It’s a Small World After All!’. Come and join us for the event, which runs from the 11th - 19th February

Unshelled nuts are one of the traditions of Christmas (Brazil, hazel, walnut, etc, not the salted type that come in the packets). December arrives and out come the nut crackers that haven’t seen light of day since last year but let’s be honest, most of the nuts eventually end up in the bin with the wrapping paper.
Nuts form a significant part of the diet for some of our animals (saki monkeys, parrots, agouti etc) so if you do have any nuts that you don’t want then please send them to us where they will definitely be put to good use.
