In 1981 Banham Zoo received a Zoo Federation award for outstanding breeding success with marmosets and tamarins. This picture shows a common marmoset and a Goeldi's monkey born in Banham in the early 1980's.

Today is International Songbird Day – a day to celebrate the wonderful variety of songbirds found across the world, but also to remember the threats that they face in the wild. Banham Zoo is home to a very special songbird, the critically endangered Rothschild’s mynah, also known as the Bali starling. However our Bioblitz event, which took place this April, also recorded 25 species of native songbird enjoying life in the zoo!

Banham Zoo is supporting the European Association of Zoos and Aquaria’s (EAZA) Silent Forest campaign, a campaign raising funds and awareness for songbird conservation in Asia. Find out more about the campaign at www.silentforest.eu

In June 1979, South Norfolk MP John MacGregor opened the lecture hall at Banham Zoo. Visitors, teachers and pupils certainly have benefited from this facility, now known as the Activities and Education Centre, as nearly 40 years after it opened we teach around 8,000 students here annually.

We have prizes for the Winners and Runners up in both the adults' and children's run, as well as several Spot Prizes! There is also a BBQ and other refreshments available throughout the evening.

With 14 days to go it’s not too late to sign up and help us raise money for wildlife conservation.

Bring your family and friends to support you - spectator tickets can be purchased at admissions for £5 each.
