The sun was rising behind me, setting the forest aglow ahead of me. Somewhere along Highway 9 between Santa Cruz and Silicon Valley.

California State Parks has been offering a series of ranger/interpreter led trips through the Santa Cruz Mountains for the past few years. "California State Parks Backpacking Adventures" or "CASPBA". I've participated in some and loved every minute. Here is a an album from the recent 2018 "In Pursuit of Perseids" hike through Castle Rock State Park.

An Instagram photo fan gave me her roof carrier. With a little modification it fit on the McForester just fine. We crammed the tents, the inflatable SUPs, and a couple of life jackets in there. The setting made it look like a Subaru commercial :) Thank you Melissa !!! I am SO grateful for the skybox!!

I have some friends that are forest rangers. They like to point at stuff. It's funny. So is this:

Today was one of those days that I really needed a walk in my favorite forest. Few things revive me like Big Basin Redwoods State Park.

Just for the love of getting people out there to do something really, really cool. I'll try to write more later (yes, I've neglected my blog). Friday night I coaxed a bunch of people into a late night photo walk at Henry Cowell Redwoods State Park. I had been coordinating with the rangers for weeks and it all came together when the weather cooperated. I think we should do more stuff like this.
