How concerned are you about your hip for this upcoming race?
We've reached week 10 folks - halfway through my training plan for Boise!! The hip issue has definitely made things a bit frustrating and I feel like I've taken two steps back....but knowing the issue is a temporary one, I've...

Not too concerned right now. It already feels so much better - PT said she wasn't worried about me doing a full 5k and I'll have another round of astym tomorrow which will help. I do want to try and push it on the run but if it does start to act up I'll back off. Finish time for Sat isn't my biggest priority as the weather is supposed to be gross anyway.

Is astym massage anything like ART massage? ART is used to break up the fibers in muscle to create more flexibility.
Iliopsoas Syndrome. What the heck is that? Can I first just say how thankful I am to have dragged my butt into PT and not procrastinated as I usually do? Otherwise I would have never found the underlining issue and some new i...

Yep, very similar in that it does help to break up the muscle fibers and any potential scar tissue. From my understanding, the main difference is that Astym works on a more cellular level to stimulate regeneration of soft tissue as well.  Interested to see the benefits - I have my first run/walk scheduled tonight, so if I can at least get through 30 mins then I'd say it's a success!

It will get better as the weather warms up, it stays lighter later and you can run/ride outside. But for now it's like pulling teeth just to get some miles in! :)

Heal up you need to start the 70.3 training and you can't have a lingering injury holding you back

Exactly, bro! Think I'm going to go with an 18 week plan - should start back up the first week of Feb. Gives me a little extra time to heal.

Going to need to do this as well. Eventually. Hopefully sooner than later.
As I mentioned in yesterday's training recap, I recently took my bike in for a cleaning and tune up at my LBS, Athlete's Lounge. Having been on the trainer since last September, my assumption is that I would need a ton of stu...

If you can't get a Retul, at least get in for a basic fit. Will make all the difference!

I work. My job is physically demanding and for the last 15 years work has had me on my feet 8+ hours a day. But besides that ( which still made me sore each and every night) I haven't done much physical activity besides a round of golf or a couple of softball games here and there. This whole triathlon training is a new experience for me but it's growing on me :)

Nice! That's not too far away - are you going to try and get a sprint in before that?
