At one time or another in our life, all of us are confronted with the most fundamental question of “who am I?” Do our memories make us who we are? When our memories are lost we are thrown into a realm of confusion about ourselves. From this we can safely conclude that our memories are a significant part of our identity. But have you ever wondered about the genesis of these memories? How is it that certain memories are more profound than others? Isn’t it puzzling how the same brain that can sometimes forget the simplest of things can also remember certain incidents that haunt us for the rest of our lives!
Such complex questions have got many inquisitive #neuroscientists thinking for over centuries now.

Let us join in this quest along with Dr. Sachin Deshmukh from IISc Bangalore and find what’s going on, as it involves our #memories too. http://ow.ly/V6r3304pEgl

Do healthy muscles fight infections too? Do muscles themselves play a key role in killing pathogens or do they rely on resident immune cells (like macrophages) to fight the infections? Can exercising help build good muscles which then in turn are better at fighting infection?

Read on as Dr. Upendra from #MRDG unwinds these mysterious facts of our immune system. IISc Bangalore http://ow.ly/NwTv303FwEK

Insects have for millennia presented human society with some of its greatest development challenges by spreading diseases, consuming crops and damaging infrastructure. Despite the massive human and financial toll of invasive insects, cost estimates of their impacts remain sporadic, spatially incomplete and of questionable quality.
Professor Corey J. A. Bradshaw and team has compiled the most comprehensive database of economic costs of invasive insects, expressing historical estimates in annual 2014-equivalent US dollars. Invasive insects cost a minimum of US$70.0 billion year-1 globally.

Come listen to Prof. Bradshaw speak on 4pm on the 3rd at #CES. #InvasiveSpecies #Insect #Economy http://ow.ly/Axws302S4fw

A long-standing core question that has remained unanswered in #CognitiveScience is: Do different modalities (pictures, words, sounds, smells, tastes and touch) access a common store of semantic information?

To discuss further upon this, #Neuroscience department of #IISc hosts a seminar on The Influence of Semantics on the Visual Processing of Natural Scenes on 28th July. For more details vist: http://ow.ly/p7jW302zB7F
