The Duck Dynasty controversy has inspired people to get involved and speak out. By all reports A&E is hearing about its decision by phone and traditional mail, and there has certainly been an explosion of complaint in social media. Frankly, I am glad to see this because those complaining have been too quite in the past, and in part, because of that silence, we are where we are at as a country today.
I know that I have personally seen people post/complain about this decision that have never once stepped into the voting booth at election time. I know that many of the people that have complained about this decision never once raised their voice of complaint when the Senate relaxed the filibuster rules, or the congress passed ObamaCare. I know that many of those same people who were angered to action by A&E never once demanded answers from the government regarding the widespread abuses of power by the NSA. In fact, I know that many of the people who are so outraged by the actions of A&E never once wrote their congressman or senator, never once called the white house switch board, and never once posted or shared a complaint via social media when the IRS specifically targeted conservative and Christian groups. I ask you, where was your outrage then?
If Duck Dynasty is the catalyst that inspires you to be involved, then Phil Robertson will one day go down in history as one of this country’s greatest heroes, and I am fine with that, because this country needs you to be involved. This country needs those who have been quite for so long.
However, if your outrage over this fails to motivate you to action on the larger political stage, then you better fight this current battle with everything you have got. Fuel your anger and let it inspire you to heroic acts of righteous indignation and get that apology from A&E, and get Phil back on the show. You better win this battle because it is the last one you will ever fight. Then, you can watch your TV and be happy while the country burns around you and the principles and freedoms that this country was founded upon are destroyed. Then, at some point later during a commercial break, you can help your child or grandchild with their history homework. You can help them understand how the U.S.A became the United Socialists of America. You can help them understand better than most because you helped to make it happen.
