I'm starting to question that maybe the Groundhog isn't a great prognosticator of meteorological events...

Epic sunset today, though.

Kylo Plays Pinball

Kylo Ren stopped by during a recent block-party and outdoor movie night to play Star Wars Pinball in our basement arcade / gameroom.

The 501st is an awesome group of guys and gals that promote Star Wars fun and capture the imagination of kids of all ages. They often attend events (cons, charity events, baseball games, moving premiers - you name it). If you are at an event and see someone with a dead-on accurate costume of a Star Wars character or a working full-size Droid milling about, odds are they are a member of the 501st.

Tequila Flight
A proper Tequila flight is hard to come by here in Alabama. Recently, I asked a local Tex-Mex place if they had a Tequila menu or offered Tequila Flights. I was met with a blank stare.

I've had a bunch of them at a few different places that call themselves Tequila bars but two of the best were at Mi DIa in Dallas and La Cava del Tequila in Orlando.

The key, aside from good Tequila, is to have a good Sangrita recipe. Sangrita, not to be confused with Sangria, is a palate cleansing chaser that is quite excellent when paired with good Tequila.

Here, I did my best to replicate the experience at home. I used Casamigos Blanco, Repasado and Anejo tequilas and whipped up a reasonably facsimile of some of the best Sangrita I've had. This recipe will make enough for a party of 8-10 people.

Mix 24 oz of Tomato Juice in a blender / chopper with 6 Serrano Peppers and half of an onion (white or red). Also mix in 3-4 mint leaves and a couple of stalks of cilantro.

Blend / Chop until everything is finely chopped. Add in 7-8 oz of freshly squeezed Lime Juice, 7-8 oz of freshly squeezed Grapefruit Juice and 7-8 oz of freshly squeezed Orange Juice, salt to taste and stir it all together.

The freshly squeezed part is really important. I've tried over-the-counter lime juice / orange juice and grapefruit juices and there is a drastic difference. Get the fruit and juice it!

Chill for a couple of hours before serving and sip the Sangrita between Tequilas. A nice way to enjoy a quality Tequila properly, paired with your favorite Mex or Tex-Mex dish or relax after a rough week.

Having a poolside hammock to retreat to, isn't required but doesn't hurt... :) Happy Hump Day!

Tilt Shift of Mobile, Alabama -- and Drone Talk Tonight

One of the things about Drone photography of Cities is that it really lends itself towards a tilt-shift treatment. If you haven't seen the CBS Late Show intro, check it out. It was done by Fernando Livschitz (https://vimeo.com/bsfilms) and his work is awesome.

In the spirit of imitation being the greatest form of flattery I tried my hand on this shot of turning a drone photo into a tilt-shift creation. It looks like I have much to learn :)

On the topic of drones, I'll be giving a chat this afternoon with the Eastern Shore Camera Club in Fairhope's Faulkner Campus, Centennial Hall - tonight at 6:30pm CST. Drop by and join us for a look at Drones in photography and film!
