Out of school, all those years ago, I wanted to do something in electronics. My father worked for such companies as Decca and Grundig in the 60s so I wanted to be just like him... I got my dream job after being chosen from a shortlist of 30 people. I was an apprentice service engineer. I hated it! It was boring, monotonous and worse of all, I had to do a college course which required a high degree of math. Me and numbers - Forget it! However, I picked up enough knowledge to pass my Amateur Radio licence some years later and become licenced as G0TDJ It is the only callsign I've ever had due to that fact I took my Morse test first (back when they were required). This used to be the source of some QDOS but has faded in meaning over the years.
OK, I got out of the electronics game and went from job to job. After following many dead ends taking as many years I ended up in IT. Worked for a training company for a while and then found myself on the end of a phone line assisting with 5 different support lines at the same time (can you read a script...) I was made promises of having my own 'team' and becoming a manager, none of which happened. Eventually it was too much and I handed in my notice (a great day of relief!)
I thought then, I'd take a stab at one of my passions, Photography. My father had bought me an SLR for my 14th birthday and I'd shot images ever since. I gave it a good go, did some weddings, PR events but this was doomed to failure. The recession had got a grip and making it in such a competitive area was more than a little tough.
Now, I'm a carer for my lovely girlfriend who is BiPolar.
