I was part of the wedding party at a reception at Hydrangea Blu recently and we had a couple of things go wrong with the tent setup. 1. There was only one wall put up on the tent. It was raining all day and very cold but the tent was not completely setup. All the walls of the tent were included in the costs of the rental and this is something that should have been taken care of before anyone else arrived. In fact when the tent was first setup the people who set the tent up should have stayed aware of the weather and prepared for rain. It was certainly in the forecast for it to rain that day. I acknowledge that Dad's Tents supplied the tent but I do not know who sets the tent up; if its supposed to be Dad's Tents that supplied it or the staff at the Hydrangea Blu Barn who were supposed to set it up. I did notice that when the walls finally did go up, the Blu Barn staff were the ones putting the walls up. Unfortunately the walls did not go up until we were eating so guests were scrambling to get sweaters and coats to the wedding party because everyone was very cold. The walls were also not secured completely because the wind continued to blow them back and forth. We had cold air rushing in and out of the tent. I will admit that the temperature improved some after the walls were up. 2. The head table was located in the wrong place. It was supposed to be setup along the wall that was already set up. If it had been in the correct place, it is possible the wedding party would have stayed warmer.

I was part of the wedding party at a reception at Hydrangea Blu recently and we had several things go wrong. 1. The bad weather was mother's nature's fault but when we arrived all of the guests were cold even though they were inside the barn. Heaters were included in the price of the rental but the bride and groom were not told that propane was an extra charge. This should have been disclosed from the beginning and prepared for so that in the event of the weather taking a turn for the worse, the barn could be heated before anyone became cold. In fact the propane was not even on site and someone had to be sent off site in order to pick it up with the provided cash. 2. I acknowledge that Hydrangea Blu did not supply the tent but I do not know who sets the tent up; if its the company that supplied it or the staff at the Blu Barn. 3. I asked the staff a couple times to put more tables into the barn but they only ever put one table inside. I understand that it was difficult with so many people standing around and taking up space so instead I asked if we could get more chairs inside but that didn't happen. There were definitely not enough seats for everyone inside even though the chairs were all right nearby. I stood almost the entire night and went home with my feet killing me. 4. The time it took to attempt to resolve the heating problem took time away from the start of dinner and most of the food was cold by the time we finally ate. 5. The head table was located in the wrong place. It was supposed to be setup along the wall that was already set up. If it had been in the correct place, it is possible the wedding party would have stayed warmer. 6. This is simply a personal opinion: I understand that having nice bathrooms at a rustic barn is difficult. The ones we had to use were the port-o-johns. However, there was other accommodations onsite of a "trailer" type restroom. It is my personal opinion that this should be all part of the standard package instead of an up-charge because this is a wedding not just any barn shindig. I could see if someone wanted to do a more casual type of celebration there and had to have an up-charge for the trailer bathrooms. But for a wedding my personal opinion is to include it with the standard cost of a wedding/reception. 7. I would like to end on a positive note. Every single time I talked with the staff or anyone else did so, they were friendly and personable. They had willing, kind and helpful spirits. I was impressed with the open friendly faces that greeted us at every corner. The staff was readily available and willing to help. The bride & groom still had a great time. Understandably - the bride vented - but once she did so she let it go and was determined to not let anything ruin her special day. Thank you for the positives and for reading.
