New Post: Relationship Counselling Relationship Counselling Sunshine Coast
Do you feel as though your relationship is lacking:

Love?
Care?
Respect?
Appreciation?
Connection?
Acceptance?
Compassion?

Relationship and Couples Counselling creates a safe harbour for couples to openly express their feelings in a constructive environment.
Relationships may struggle for many reasons, this may be due to many factors such as:

Cracks have started to develop after a lengthy time together
Being time poor and not having enough time to put into the relationship
A continual sense of stress and overwhelm
Suffering with physical or mental illness or disbalance
Feeling misunderstood and unheard
A life experience or trauma that challenges the strength of the relationship
Unresolved conflict
Holding expectations of each other that may be misunderstood, unrealistic or misaligned
Going long periods of time with a lack of joy and overall life fulfillment
Financial strains causing high stress
Trust has been compromised
Reduced care or respect

The core purpose of relationship counselling is to:

Learn how to effectively support each other
Give both individuals a legitimate voice and work through any misunderstandings
Facilitate communication in a non-judgemental manner
Validate experiences
Identify again the core personality traits that connected you to each other in the first place
Re-establish the connection that once existed but is now missing
Discuss the arguments or disagreements that seem reoccurring and never ending. What is the core reasoning of these?

When we feel attacked or judged we go into defensive behaviours and create patterns that rarely get into the essence of what is really going on. So, within a non-judgemental and safe therapeutic way both parties will have the time and space to be able to effectively communicate what they are experiencing and what is going on.
Both individuals are the client, there is no bias. Time will be spent delving into patterns that may have been established before the relationship was developed. These patterns may be getting in the way of effectively communicating your needs, tension and fears with each other. These patterns could be what is holding you back from a beautiful relationship.
Our compassionate team offer couples counselling where the deeper needs and desires of both individuals are heard and understood. Our approach is non-judgemental and warm.

Updated Post: Leaky Gut Test Intestinal Permeability Test also known as Leaky Gut.
Leaky Gut intestinal permeability test assesses lactulose and mannitol recovery in order to monitor improvements or deterioration in intestinal permeability. It can also be used to monitor the compliance and effectiveness of a gluten-free diet in patients with Coeliac disease.
Common conditions that may be associated with ‘leaky gut’ include:

Intestinal bacterial imbalance (dysbiosis)
Irritable Bowel Syndrome
Inflammatory Bowel Disease – Ulcerative colitis, Crohn’s disease, Coeliac disease
Fatigue
Food allergy and sensitivities
Eczema and related skin conditions

How does the test work?
You ingest a mannitol and lactulose solutions provided by the laboratory. The test measures the amount of these found in the urine.
Small molecules (i.e. mannitol) are easily absorbed by the intestinal villi, whilst larger molecules (i.e. lactulose) are not. After passing through the gastrointestinal tract, these molecules are excreted into the urine. Normally, the ratio of lactulose to mannitol in urine is low (i.e. lactulose is not absorbed, and mannitol is absorbed). If the gastrointestinal membrane is impaired (i.e. ‘leaky gut’), the large molecule (lactulose) can pass through the gastrointestinal membrane and becomes present in the urine. This causes the ratio of lactulose to mannitol to be high, and indicates an impaired membrane.
This test may indicate malabsorption (the body is not efficiently absorbing nutrients) if the level of mannitol is low (mannitol is a small molecule and therefore normally penetrates the intestinal membrane).
Once we receive the report identifying how “leaky” the gut is we are able to cater a healthy eating and nutritional supplementation guide geared towards repairing the gut lining.
Our Naturopaths often check for Leaky Gut when the client has:

Fatigue or mental fog particularly after eating
Poor nutrient status and deficiencies despite a healthy diet
Bloating
Food intolerances
Digestive upsets

This test is also good for those seeking a preventative medicine treatment plan.
To assess if a leaky gut test is right for you book a free naturopathic assessment consultation.

Updated Post: Psychology Therapies & Techniques Sunshine Coast Psychologist Therapies and Techniques Available

Different psychological therapies Our
COGNITIVE BEHAVIOURAL THERAPY (CBT)
CBT is a well established, evidence based type of psychotherapy that allows client’s to become aware of the link between their thoughts, feelings and behaviours and able to identify those that are maladaptive and causing their psychological difficulties such as depression, anxiety, PTSD, obsessive compulsive disorder, panic attacks, anger issues, substance abuse, eating disorders and many more.
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy is useful for people suffering from mental health conditions by helping them to change their unhelpful thinking habits, feelings and behaviours by using different techniques such as reality testing and cognitive restructuring as well as practical self-help strategies, which are designed to bring about positive and immediate changes in the person’s quality of life.
POSITIVE SUNSHINE COAST PSYCHOLOGY THERAPIES
In 1998 Martin Seligman suggested that psychology turn toward understanding and building human strengths to complement the traditional emphasis on healing damage. Psychology had neglected the positive side of life, having spent much of the last half century primarily concerned with psychopathology.
As a result, psychologists and psychiatrists can now measure with considerable precision, and effectively treat, a number of major mental illnesses. However, this progress came at a cost. Relieving life’s miseries made building the states that make life worth living less of a priority (Seligman, 2002).
One of the principle aims of Positive Psychology has been to correct this imbalance by propelling the field into supplementing its hard-won knowledge about suffering and mental illness with a great deal more knowledge about positive emotion.
Positive psychology represents a commitment to the sources of psychological wellness, such as positive emotions, positive experiences, positive environments, and human strengths and virtues (Lyubomirsky, 2007).
The major aims of Positive Psychology Therapies are:

Rise to life’s challenges
Make the most of setbacks and adversity
Engage and relate to other people
Find fulfilment in creativity and productivity
Look beyond oneself and help others to find lasting meaning, satisfaction, and wisdom

(Keyes & Haidt, 2004).
MINDFULNESS
Mindfulness therapy has emerged as an extremely effective, evidence-based tool for enhancing psychological health and wellbeing. It has been clinically proven to successfully treat a wide range of clinical conditions including chronic pain, anxiety, depression, PTSD, OCD, substance abuse and Borderline Personality Disorder. Mindfulness can effectively reduce stress, increase self-awareness, improve emotional intelligence and help one to become better equipped to handle painful thoughts and feelings.
Only recently embraced by Western psychology, mindfulness is an ancient practice found in Eastern philosophies including Buddhism, Taoism and Yoga. It involves consciously bringing awareness into one’s here-and-now experience with openness, interest and receptiveness. Mindfulness urges one to wake up and connect with themselves whilst appreciating the fullness of each moment of their life. Kabat-Zinn calls it, “The art of conscious living.” It is a remarkable way of enhancing one’s psychological and emotional resilience and increasing their life satisfaction.
SOLUTION-FOCUSED BRIEF THERAPY (SFBT)
SFBT is a brief type of therapy that focuses on solutions rather than on problems. In some other styles of therapy (even more so in psychology’s history), many professionals spent a lot of time thinking, talking and analysing a client’s problems, thus clients continued to dwell on their problems and hence continued suffering.
With Solution-Focused Brief Therapy, the idea is that rather then spending so much time, energy and resources on talking about problems, therapy is instead directed to thinking about what might help clients to get to solutions that will bring realistic and reasonable relief as quickly as possible.
Recognising that all clients no matter how chronically unwell have periods of time when their difficulties do not occur and are less intense and studying these times, you can uncover the many positive things they do that they are not fully aware of.
By bringing these small successes into their awareness and repeating the successful things they do when the problem is less severe, people improve their lives and become more confident and empowered within.
This helps them to develop a sense of hope about themselves and their lives. With hope comes the interest in creating a better life for themselves and those around them.
Because these solutions have already been used by the client and are thus already within them, repeating these successful behavi…
