A series of postcards I designed for +VoiceMap , with quotes from my favourite Cape Town audio walks.
You can choose from 19 walks at https://voicemap.me/walk/cape-town now, all of them in different neighbourhoods by different storytellers.

+VoiceMap 's Android app still has some bugs, but I used it yesterday on a walk from Muizenberg to Kalk Bay it worked well.

+VoiceMap now has 18 location-aware audio walking tours in Cape Town. There's Kirstenbosch with a botanist, Mouille Point with a surfer, sailor and wordsmith, and most recently, the historic city centre with a descendent of the slaves that built it. There are walking tours all over the city, including Simon's Town, Bo Kaap, the Company's Garden, Muizenberg and the East City Precinct, and all of them are by Cape Town's favourite storytellers.

One of my favourite +VoiceMap audio walks so far.

For the past three months, +Lauren Edwards, John Fearon and I have been working on a way to connect a voice and a location to tell intimate, immersive stories. It's called VoiceMap, and while it's still very much in beta, we already have a number of engaging walks through Cape Town, narrated by accomplished storytellers. Justin Fox talks about shipwrecks, sea creatures and stormy lives in Mouille Point. Eve Sandler talks about why the Company's Garden is a modern-day refreshment station, and how she became an accidental terrorist. Jeanette Clarke makes fynbos magical at Kirstenbosch.

We have an iPhone app, which you'll find at bit.ly/voicemap. And if you're a storyteller, we'd like to work with you. VoiceMap grew at least partly out of my frustration with trying to tell Cape Town's story in a single voice, from a single perspective, when I was the editor at GreatGuide. We want personal stories, about your connection to a place, because we believe that they make the world more meaningful. If you're interested, send me a message.

Isn't consumerism fun?

A single photo from everywhere we've been since January 2011. On Thursday, when we arrive in Shanghai, this lengthy dogleg of a journey will come to an end. A week later, we set off for Cape Town overland.
