Damn, Sharon - tears to start my morning! Beautifully stated, and I hope you find the perfect event for the dress.

When our daughter got married last April, I faced buying the dreaded mother-of-the-bride dress...yuck! Thanks to a savvy and patient friend, I ended up with not one but three (yes, all on sale!) beautiful choices. I've only worn one so far (sleeveless!), but it was perfect for the wedding, and yes, I felt beautiful for a change. The others still hang in my closet, and sometimes I feel guilty for buying them.

But our son's law school graduation is in May, with a champagne reception following, so maybe one of them will work for that special event...

Thank you!

No guilt for those three dresses! And yay you for wearing that sleeveless dress to the wedding. I've no doubt you looked beautiful (since you ARE) and congratulations on your son's upcoming graduation. Rock whichever dress you wear, and enjoy the event!

"All that we can do to enlarge our lives, they concluded, is to strive to make of them things worth the telling, the stuff of stories that will make an impact on other mortal minds, so that, being replicated there, our lives will take on moreness."

"We cannot always place responsibility outside of ourselves, on parents, nations, the world, society, race, religion. Long ago it was the gods. If we accepted a part of this responsibility we would simultaneously discover our strength."

“Bellinger calculates a total loss of 16.9 million IQ points due to exposure to organophosphates, the most common pesticides used in agriculture…Grandjean and Landrigan note in their research that rates of diagnosis of autism spectrum disorder and ADHD are increasing, and that neurobehavioral development disorders currently affect 10 to 15 percent of births. They add that ‘subclinical decrements in brain function’—problems with thinking that aren’t quite a diagnosis in themselves—‘are even more common than these neurobehavioral development disorders.’”

"...new technology is increasingly able to find these abnormalities. When we do, our inclination is to act, even when the remedy turns out to be far more harmful than the disease would have been, had it run its course."

“Low-road contractors pay poverty level wages and provide no benefits for their employees, who then rely on food, housing, healthcare, and childcare subsidies from government agencies. Thus, the real costs of goods and services purchased under federal contracts are hidden, as are the thousands of workers who are trapped within this broken system.”

“74 percent (of those hired under government contracts) earn less than $10 an hour. Only 26 percent got sick days and just 11 percent received employer-provided healthcare – 58 percent report no benefits at all. One in five is falling back on Medicaid for health care and 14 percent say they depend on food stamps.”
