Don't worry, you're not alone or a jackass. Our brains are hardwired to want acceptance from society, so when you feel kind of sad about your social media share or blog post not getting a lot of love, it's normal- albeit stupid.

Have you talked to your sons and daughters about their shitty taste in music yet? http://www.hipstercrite.com/2013/08/29/forget-miley-how-to-talk-to-your-children-about-their-shitty-music-taste/
There have been an abundance of articles circulating the web on how to talk to your daughters about Miley Cyrus or how to talk to your sons about Robin Thicke after their audience-shocking performance of Thicke's Blurred Lines at MTV's VMAs, but the greater conversation still appears unspoken: have you talked to your children about their shitty, shitty taste in music yet? Or more importantly have you talked to yourself about how you could let you...

Are you a freelancer and need help deciding which health insurance to get? Read here! http://www.hipstercrite.com/2013/08/12/everything-you-need-to-know-about-freelancing-and-health-insurance/
Health-Insurance-Companies Health insurance. One of the largest difficulties freelancers face. Can I afford health insurance for myself? Which provider should I get? Do I qualify for Freelancer's Union insurance? How high or low should my deductible be? Should I get a HSA plan? Do I have to get health insurance before Obamacare goes into effect?

At various points in my five years in Austin, I've heard several Texans poo-poo Dallas. Dallas has no character nor soul, but great food! they say. Or, Don't Dallasify Austin! they shout as more and more condos sprout up around the ATX.

Is your wanderlust getting to you? Check out my guide to Tucson, Arizona! It's hipper than you think... http://www.hipstercrite.com/2013/07/09/hipster-city-travel-tucson-arizona/
Hipsters and Arizona. Two words you commonly don't see in the same sentence. For those of you who have been, Tucson, located roughly two hours southeast of Phoenix, has been small, vibrant college town for decades. The city has the feel of Austin 40 years ago, but that vibe is slowly is changing. The word is out, and Tucson is becoming a popular place to live and visit.

Today I turn thirty. Wow. I never imagined this day would come (I said this exact sentence during the series finale of The X-files). We would stay dirty, stinky kids forever, right?

What do you think are the ten coolest things that happened in Austin in 2013? http://www.hipstercrite.com/2013/12/13/the-ten-coolest-things-that-happened-in-austin-in-2013/#comment-161431
It's that time of year again; that time where everyone makes butt-loads of end-of-year lists. Considering I have the pop culture-viewing habits of 68 year-old prisoner in a low-security prison, I would be completely unqualified to create a "best of" list in the fields of film, music or literature. If left to my own devices, my "Top Ten Films of 2013" list would consist solely of Pee-Wee's Big Adventure. I'm completely out-of-touch and I'm OK with...

My mother hasn't dated in over twenty years. In twenty years, she hasn't felt the touch of another when she becomes scared, frustrated, or confused. In twenty years, she hasn't heard the words It's going to be OK when she needs to hear it most. It twenty years she hasn't had a partner to help her with tasks around the house, to sit an enjoy watching The Big Bang Theory with (so, my Mom likes The Big Bang Theory- do you have a problem with that?),...

We went tubing in East Austin this weekend! I took a shower for three hours afterwards. http://www.hipstercrite.com/2013/07/29/tubing-in-east-austin-where-small-children-find-stabbing-knives/
I live with a toober, a person obsessed with tubing in Texas. Every chance Geoff gets to go tubing, he will take it. Even drifting into a snake ball hasn't stopped him from floating. He has tubing regalia: an adorably gay mesh tee, cherished cut-off denim shorts, water shoes, and koozie with a neck string. His affection for tubing exceeds that of many of us and like a small, adventuresome child, Geoff often finds himself excitedly planning tubing...

Did y’all see that Buzzfeed article yesterday called "30 Signs You’re Almost 30"? I added a few of my own, including "watching Games of Thrones is sometimes better than having real sex." http://www.hipstercrite.com/2013/07/10/15-more-signs-that-youre-almost-30/
Did y'all see that Buzzfeed article yesterday called 30 Signs You're Almost 30? Reading signs such as you've gone to a bar and left because it was too loud and there's an increasing number of musical artists you haven't heard of brought me great comfort; I've learned that I'm not the only curmudgeonly, 80 year-old-feeling 30 year-old out there. Since Austin is Never Never Land for hipsters, I often feel like the odd woman out.

How to make a succulent book planter with a bottle of wine and 30 Rock. http://www.hipstercrite.com/2013/07/02/how-to-make-a-succulent-book-planter/
I've never been nor ever will be an adorable lifestyle blog. No model-esque baby has exited my womb to photograph and share with viewers day after day (I do have a baby whose eyes I gouged in with a screwdriver though). Our house is filled with stacks of paperwork, dead plants and the American tradition of Ikea furniture mixed with vintage, solid pieces.

My anxieties are reaching an all-time high lately, I thought as my doctor scolded me for touching my boobies too much. Quit squeezing your boobs! is what she said, actually.

Story
Tagline
A lifestyle and pop culture blog for those who refuse to admit they're hipsters.
Introduction
I have a NY driver’s license, a LA mailing address, and an Austin physical address. I have no idea what the hell I’m doing. If you want to know what my blog is about, I have no idea either.

Here, this guy said it best, “Hipstercrite bridges the gap between blogging about yourself and blogging about pop culture. For all you English Studies people out there, I’ll translate that: “She transgresses the socio-political boundaries between the Cultural and the Personal”.

That sounds pretty good to me…and no, I didn’t write that in the third person.

Hipstercrite was  born in Central New York during the Reagan administration. She enjoyed wearing suits and fantasized about being middle-aged Jewish men as a child, most notably four out of the five Marx Brothers, Rod Serling, and Woody Allen. Her childhood obsession with film led her to LA at the age of 20, but like many naive cinephiles who move to Hollywood, she quickly learned (quickly being five years of denial and drinking) that the film business was not for her. Having lost all her creativity and tired of living the plotline to Swimming with Sharks, she jumped in her car one day in 2008  and drove to Austin, Texas where she knew no one, had no job lined up and only $500 to her name.

It was the best decision she ever made.

Hipstercrite co-wrote and co-produced the feature film Loves Her Gun starring Trieste Kelly Dunn and Francisco Barreiro and directed by Geoff Marslett. The film will be premiering at SXSW 2013. She writes a column on Culture Map Austin and is a contributor on ScoutMob.  Her writing can also be found on The Guardian, xoJane, Austin Monthly, Spinner, Alternative Apparel, Consequence of Sound and AOL Travel News.
