Really interesting article about the failed launch (and upcoming relaunch) of Color.

"Within 30 minutes I realized, Oh my God, it's broken. Holy shit, we totally fucked up," says Nguyen. "I thought we were going to build a better Facebook. My reaction was like putting your finger into a light socket. You know something went very wrong."

Prepare to have less visibility with your organic search traffic.

Say goodbye to some referrer data. Google's going all encrypted. That's better for consumers, and this time was coming. But it's not coming for those who buy ads.

Quick recap of a split test 37Signals ran for Highrise. A long form sales letter wins again.
Carson Coots originally shared:

Apparently, those shady looking, really long sales pages that I have despised since the dawn of the Internet actually perform better.

37Signals recently A/B tested their Highrise landing page and saw a 37% increase in sales with a long-form sales-letter styled page vs. their more concise page, which I had always used as an example of a great sales page. What a bummer.

The test was inspired by Visual Website Optimizer’s “Anatomy of long sales letter” post:

Bill Gates hits on several interesting topics here.

"I can understand wanting to have a million dollars, it’s freedom, but once you get beyond that, I have to tell you, it’s the same hamburger. Dick’s doesn’t raise their prices,” he said, referring to the Seattle-area fast-food chain. “But being ambitious is good.”

Yeah, another Panda update. Sure wish we'd get Google to start issuing "weather reports" about updates like this, like it used to. More on that later.
