Great place! Don't be afraid to go if you are new to the hobby. The employees are knowledgeable and friendly and make you feel at ease. I have been here six times and have always had a good experience. I just took their CCW class and it was fantastic! SGT Gilliam was a great instructor. Just the right amount of humor and knowledge made the eight hours fly by. The range instructor helped with my grip and stance and it helped tremendously with my accuracy.

I took the class a month ago and enjoyed every bit of it .I thought I was in for an boring evening but it was the total opposite I'm prior military my dad was a cop and brother was a chief so I've heard all types of stories and situations that have happened what I enjoyed a out the class was Sgt Gillian not only taught a serious class he he made it fun and humorous he could actually have a side gig as a comedian . But in actuality he taught gun safety and he was patient, even to the students that really scared me of knowing they may actually have a ccw. You know the ones that make the class longer and always has a hypothetical situation about something instead of sitting and listening. But if I had one thing to add to the class it would be gun maintenance a lot of first time shooters don't know the importance of gun maintenance, or how to eject misfires . But again it was GREAT!!!

top notch from the big boss all the down the line.the people are very helpful and knowledgable. Lanes are clean well lighted and well ventilated.. Had trouble setting my lasar and they not only set it for me but showed me how to do it.also gave me some good shooting tips. i have shot at most of the ranges in the st.louis area this is by far the best.

I took my CCW class here. The facility use police officers to teach the classes. Nice to have it all complete in one day.

Clean range, SAFE range, employees are a little sour, and they don't allow rifles with 7.62x39 rounds because they are too loud. Although, most argue a Magnum .44 is louder, and Magnums are allowed at the range. Seems very strict- I asked what rounds the range can handle, it's rated for .50 caliber.. Since most of the ranges in the STL area are just as clean, most with friendlier staff, and allow my AK47, I doubt I ever return to Ultimate Defense. I was a regular shooter there for a long time with my handguns.. Atleast until the rifle caliber rules change, or they allow 1 day a week for "louder" firearms, I'll spend my range rent elsewhere.. It's already an expensive hobby, treat me with kindness.

From the second I walked in the door I was disappointed. Employees were short in their responses, were only worried about getting customers in and out as fast as possible. A younger guy with tattoos on his arms stood out in a bad way to me. He was ignorant, wanna be billy bad a**. He carried himself like he was Gods gift to the world and wanted to make it known. Don't get me wrong I wasn't going there to make friends... I could understand if he was reacting to a safety violation and got after someone, but no, just an a** even when I asked questions about the business. From my experience, people who act like that have some sort of complex just because they work at a shooting range. I didn't bother to tell him I was LEO and what I thought about his attitude. Range was clean, average lanes and decent shop. They will not be getting my business in the future and will not recommend to others or my brother and sisters in blue.

It is unfortunate that you had a bad experience. If the post you made was the same day as you visited the range, it was probably abnormally busy when you were there. My name is Paul Bastean and I am the owner as well as a 20 year Sgt for the Lake St. Louis Police Department. Additionally, all my Concealed Carry Courses as well as all my Advanced Courses are taught by active duty Law Enforcement. All my staff are professional and the specific staff member is a full time fireman and one of my best counter staff guys. Not sure if you caught him at a bad time, but I would invite you give the range another chance to see if you have different results. We have an outstanding on-line reputation and I would like to see if we could get you to change your review. If not, our brothers and sisters in blue know me and the nine other cops that work for me well enough to know your description of staff is not a typical encounter, but I’d still like to see if we can change your mind. Stay safe.

I took A LEOSA class tonight. The class was excellent. Sgt. Gilliam was a great instructor. His assistant, Mike, was great also. I am looking forward to shooting there again.

I've stopped by a few times and have been impressed every time. Professional service, high quality range and discounts for First Responders. Keep up the good work and look forward to buying my next handgun from you!
