Watched Hardcore Henry (2015)
I really enjoyed that. Innovative, fun, crazy with no apologies, and the most amazing stunts and action sequences. A wild ride. Plus there's something of a story there and a few surprises on the way. Much more than I expected.

Watched West Side Story (1961)
Is it a sad reflection of how western society can't fix some key problems, of how cleverly written this film is, or both that this film is incredibly relevant for so many issues in and out of America?

Watched Secret in Their Eyes (2015)
I've seen the original some time back and had forgotten the story, so I thought this would have more impact. The performances are fantastic though, especially Roberts and Ejiofor, and I do like Kidman playing a darker character. Their interactions and story are strong, it's just the ending that didn't have the power of the original. It played out rather than pulled me in. Still, a great story and superb performances.

Watched Suicide Squad (2016)
I actually enjoyed Suicide Squad, but not a great deal. It was a decent fun film with some interesting characters, but there were many issues. The super villains weren't that super - a sniper, an insane woman with a baseball bat, a man with metal boomerangs, a man who can climb buildings using a grappling hook. They weren't as special as the crack special forces who went with them. Then there's the altogether too big and too supernaturally unbeatable really bad villain, who was just too big and way too out of their league. Still, it was fun and had some good dialogue. Didn't feel like DC though.

Watched Arrival (2016)
Absolutely amazing film, in every aspect. Wonderful sound design and editing and a stunning storyline with a fantastic lead performance. Packed with all manner of emotions which seep into you through the closing scenes. Ignore other comparisons, it stands alone.

Watched Passengers (2016)
I was a little disappointed in this after reading the script. Too much concentrating on the romantic elements and racing through the dramatic final act. Then a couple of cinematic clichés that all the audience know and just shouldn't be in films anymore. Still. Good fun. Even if Lawrence wasn't giving her best at times. Garcia, how much did get paid for that?!

Watched The East (2013)
That was rather good. The ending flash forward montage wasn't that good but the rest of the film was. Good performances.

Watched Rogue One (2016)
You know, it's good, very good, but is it as great as people say it is? I'm not so sure. I thought the early introduction scenes leapt from planet to planet and I didn't feel connected to the story for a little while. When it did get going I felt the connections to the previous films, and not just in characters and plot but in the feeling, in the emotion, in the force. While the final act had lots to marvel at in terms of effects, action and tension, there wasn't anything particularly new. In fact a couple of times I rolled my eyes, there were some clichéd moments for sure. Still epic though, and much less of a Disney film than I'd feared, much less than any of the Lucas prequels that's for sure.

Watched American Sniper (2014)
Just watched this again. Fantastic film. Powerful performances and very moving. Writing, direction and acting make you feel for the characters in the hardest of situations. It's a tough story to tell buy it's told wonderfully.

Watched My Scientology Movie (2015 Documentary)
Well that was disappointing. Having watched the documentary Going Clear I felt I got more from this rambling discussion than if I hadn't. Without having seen the prior film I'd be questioning what half of the things being talked about were and missing out on the context and importance of some major issues. Numerous times there were important questions to ask and Theroux just didn't ask them out backed away from them. Forget this and go straight to Going Clear.
