I am so sorry for you loss. As a hobby genealogist, I wish everyone would write and publish such lovely memorials. It brings the person to life and allows you to appreciate them - whether or not you actually knew them.

Just finished Coyote Horizon by Allen Steele in just a few days. Fantastic! Usually a book takes me weeks, measured in however many pages, or even sentences, I can read before I fall asleep.

Felt it down here in SC too. Was wondering just what the heck the utility construction crew was doing :)

+Deb Ellis and I were just reminiscing about Donut Nation in Los Banos, which we stopped at while driving through there between Fresno and Monterey at the end of 2003. Awesome donuts! I wondered whether the place was still there, so I searched and found they've changed hands, but remain good. They have 4.5 stars on Yelp, and I found a blog review. Both links have pictures. The trays of donuts look more like my childhood rather than what you see in the shops now. (Looks like I'll have to put one of the links in a comment.) I can't imagine when we'd ever go back there, since that side of the family migrated to Oregon.

Cool, but hard! I scored 3, which is better than I'd expected.

Can You Pass The Color Test?

- FACT: 1 out of 255 women and 1 out of 12 men have some form of color vision deficiency.

Take the test here >>>>> http://goo.gl/Sov04

My score 123 (v.bad) (0 is perfect)

Holy cow! We weren't really expected to get snow where I am, but there it is, merrily falling and well on its way to an inch.

Power was out for about 25 1/2 hours here in Middleboro, despite Irene not having ramped up at the time it failed, and being relatively mild. Didn't learn until after dark that the reliable, kept-in-high-spot big flashlight had dead batteries. Kids had their way with it a few months ago. I'd forgotten it was dead after recovering it. Dread purging the fridge now.

Battery backups, small car battery charger charge my phone and tablet. Everything else has been off since Sunday morning.

On the rare occasions I look at my Twitter stream I keep wanting to "like" or "+1" tweets, then realize that does not compute.

I've installed a "+1 anything" extension into Chrome. It seems to work okay so far. FWIW.

Do you know me? Marshall Ellis. Sometimes known as Jay. Sometimes known by a blog name, under which I once was better known than I've been in forever.

You may know me from blogging, or the late Carnival of the Capitalists. You may know me from work at places like Corporate Software/Stream International, FedEx, Lynch & Lynch, etc. You may know me from school, eons ago, at Silver Lake or Bridgewater State.

You may know me from Arisia. Or from something more obscure, like rec.arts.written.sf.robert-jordan in its heyday (though mostly I lurked and didn't use my real name), comp.lang.basic.visual.* (mostly misc), or even the American Idol newsgroup in more recent years, but not since the government's persecution of Usenet made it inconvenient.

We may be related and you have no choice but to know me. Sorry.

Surely that leaves something out, but that should help.
