Contribution for Myanmar Refugee Children

On 17 August 2015, a few lecturers from the Centre for Nation Building and Languages teaching the Civic Consciousness and Volunteerism course paid a visit to United Learning Centre (‘ULC’) in view of the students’ charity and volunteering projects for the coming semesters. ULC was established in year 2011 to provide a safe place for Myanmar refugee children to learn and play. ULC also provides meals for the children. There are currently about 100 children under the care of ULC.

When the lecturers were at ULC, they found out that ULC was in urgent need of a commercial rice cooker and an electrical kettle as the ones that ULC had earlier were spoilt. As the students’ fund-raising projects are months away, the staff from the Centre for Nation Building and Languages decided to chip in to buy the items to ease the burden of ULC in their meal preparation for the children.

On 6 August 2015, Ms Serene Ong and Ms Christina Lee from TAR UC paid a visit and interviewed a supportive alumnus, Mr Tai Sing Nge for his inauguration as District Governor overseeing 82 Lions Clubs under District 308 B2. Mr Tai joined the Lions Club of Subang Jaya 24 years ago as a member and steadily climbed up the rungs to be what he is today. In the past, Mr Tai Sing Nge also held office as Chairman of the SAS Alumni Society of TAR University College where he contributed actively.

Congratulations once again to Mr Tai, for this very special inauguration speaks volumes of his capability as a leader and for his contribution to society!
