Below is a list of tips and tutorials from 2015.

2016 entries are in the stream but no list. Lots here for a good start. AND I am adding a post (or maybe more) on testing done for physics. This is mostly for Opensim as the new 9 UbODE code acts very much like SL. So appropriate for both platforms.

Following the Opensim Virtual group's breadcrumbs, I have made a new account at MeWe. Topics will cover 3D modeling as well as happenings in virtual worlds.

Google Plus News

So with Google Plus shutting down over the next year, this site will of course disappear. Please feel free to grab tutorial photos etc. Remember that the ones at the beginning of Cycles may or may NOT be helpful (LOL) as I was learning back then and have since got my method and workflow in order.

Videos are still up at SLArtist and YouTube.

That Toolbelt

Some of the Opensiim folks may remember the VERY long toolbelt project. That was way before I learned Cycles, and indeed all that much about meshmaking. It has already been revived to a Cycles item but it is time again for a redo.

I am HOPING to get it into Sansar as a "necklace" (well in theory that might work since they may both attach to "spine" -- but only theory) So that will be today's project if I don't get pulled away.

Just a PS. Belts apparently are not as close to "necklaces" as I had hoped. I put in a request for a BELTS attachment, but even so my toolbelt (now much better made and lower poly ) won't really work because of where our hands always are. Ah the trials of new platforms. But I did get some jewelry made!

Sansar -- Almost Real

It's been so long I almost forgot how the interface worked :D.

With ducks in a row in SL and products for events lined up I have been working in Sansar. While not ready for prime time, there is still lots to learn and plenty to enjoy -- and like Opensim it is free. Always a plus.

The learning curve is steep but not surmountable. Some things we can do, some we cannot (furniture with sits would be a plus) but whatever your impression almost everyone agrees that the atmosphere and lighting is steps above most virtual platforms.

My first "experience" in the can I moved on to another which took a very different direction in theme and look. My method didn't change, just the choices that I made within that workflow.

So here is a unretouched screenshot of a small corner of my new build called "Snow Daze" (and yes, there is snow!).

A few of you might recognize my old Ug Boots from Canada :D. I had to redo them some (we do learn happily) but I am very happy to have them ensconced on the new platform.

Ranch LIfe in Sansar

This build may look familiar. After a couple of weeks or so Ranch Life was published in Sansar. Most items were adapted from .blend files used in Second Life and Opensim.

Ranch Life is not PBR - Phong based. I used Cycled baked textures, instead. A lot of the old timers there are having a problem with my lack of interest in PBR and its four slot texture upload system :D. But, I have never been one to follow the crowd so I did things my way.

Happy with the dreamy quality of the scene -- and the average of fifteen seconds for load time, I doubt I will be making many changes. In fact a few folks are talking bout switching over to Cycles for their next Sansar project. I am not building for the VR crowd, purposefully. In my mind Sansar needs the desktop guys in order to survive. We don't need 4096 textures to be happy -- and that's a pretty good thing in my estimation.

So if you venture over, come take a look. No scripts. Just wander and daydream about how life was a dozen decades ago.

Heavy Mesh

A long post with photos about the differences between heavy mesh and something closer to the "game assets" we need in SL and OS. Even if there is no land impact in OS, those pesky triangle still exist and still lag down your sim. So be aware.

Road to Nowhere

The road to nowhere was once a sim length of wheat fields. In 2018 it has become a slice of Americana -- this decade or others, it matters not.

One of my favorite places at MOSP, it was lots of fun to create.

Post 5000

Yesterday I celebrated my 5000th post on Chic at Phil's Place. Those 5,000 posts don't count my blog on Opensim, IW (before OS), my personal blog or the MOSP blog --- or countless other blogs over the years. And let's not get into those well over 5000 comments on the SL forums and all the Google Plus chatter.

I obviously like to put thoughts into words and visions into photos. This was a recreation of a group photo from 2011 and my 2000th post.

So for posterity ....
