In Nepal, lives have been shattered and people are struggling to meet their most basic human needs. Habitat for Humanity are responding. Habitat staff are on the ground assessing the situation and coordinating with government agencies and other partners on the disaster response operations. Your support will help Habitat rebuild homes and hope in the villages and communities affected by this devastating earthquake. http://www.habitatireland.ie/nepal-earthquake/

A team from Rathdown School volunteered with Habitat for Humanity in Oradea this month. In this video, some of the students and teachers talk to a local news reporter about why they decided to volunteer in Romania: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q_GTDcKhy7I&feature=youtu.be

Happy Friday! In June 2013, almost 250 volunteers from Wesley College, Dublin spent a week working with Habitat for Humanity in Beius, Romania to help build 10 homes alongside future homeowner families.

Within this project called Wesley Way, all the families have since moved into their homes. Their joy is great and they are now a cohesive and supportive community, caroling together at Christmas, enjoying the sun together during the summer. They are happy. http://bit.ly/1aXK22L

Keelan and Emma are gearing up to build decent and affordable homes for single parent families in Romania this Easter. The girls were speaking to the Liffey Champion about the impact young people can make with Habitat for Humanity Ireland. You can also help create decent housing opportunities for low-income families by signing up to Habitat’s Summer Youth Build bringing 16-17 year olds to Romania this June: http://bit.ly/1KdRCBg

"When researching the impact of Habitat’s work on people’s lives in Zambia, I was both uplifted and utterly depressed. The anguish suffered by these families was only matched by the joy when they were given hope by Habitat for Humanity."
As we say farewell to Eoin, our Development Intern, take a look at his reflection of his time here with Habitat. http://bit.ly/1KOZpWl

The ripple effect of a home extends into the wider community. Habitat homes help to regenerate areas that are often impoverished. Our efforts break down barriers and establish vibrant neighbourhoods. See the impact of a home on communities here: http://bit.ly/1vBysUK

Housing need takes many forms and it can be seen everywhere in the world. Behind every example of need, every fact or figure about housing and poverty, there are families — families who simply need Habitat for Humanity’s hand-up to help them have a decent place to live.

A really special element of a Habitat trip is interacting with members of the local community. Habitat Ireland's Easter Youth Build team paid a visit to a local school in the community of Moinesti in Romania. During this visit, team leader Anna Smith talked to a local reporter about volunteering in Romania: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GaIJA5DzzaU

Fatima, originally from the Philippines, has been living in Ireland for many years. But last month she returned to her home country to help rebuild homes that had been destroyed by Typhoon Haiyan.

Today, she tells her story on Habitat’s blog:

“At the moment, many of the locals are still living in temporary settlements. Through Habitat For Humanity, their aspirations will come to reality - that one day, through their own share of hard work, they shall have a decent place to live, a house they can proudly call their own...and make it a home.”

Safe travels to our first overseas team of 2015 departing for the Philippines today. They’ll be building safe and decent homes alongside families affected by Typhoon Haiyan.

Pictured is Aislinn Hayes from Limerick who said:
"Habitat gives me the opportunity to really make a difference in a physical and safe way, rather than just throwing money at a far away problem. The people of the Philippines have experienced awful tragedy as a result of the recent typhoons; hopefully this trip will give a boost to at least some families and local volunteers over there.”
