Speaking of doodling. One of my recent artist discoveries came from watching the great Netflix series Abstract. Each episode traces the background and creative process of somebody working in art/design. My favorite is about the illustrator Christoph Niemann. One of his exercises is taking an everyday object and then building a sketch around it. Although he did not intend for them to be more than exercises, he started posting them to Instagram, where they have become among his most popular work. You can see many of them here: http://www.christophniemann.com/portfolio/sunday-sketches-2/.
I've used this exercise with students, and they love it. Here's my morning attempt: The Hippo Swims. (The giraffe fork is one of Niemann's.) Enjoy!

After reading +Kevin Hodgson post about his Color the Muse Collaboration with +Karon Bielenda and +Ronald L, I saw Karon's statement about how colorful the Soundtrap score looked. Decided to use it as the basis for a little creating. Tried to do a Mondrian sort of thing, with Matisse's Musique makers thrown in for good measure. Pun intended. (Could also be a riff on tetris?) Used Snapchat to create.

A digital postcard for Make Cycle 2. The cutout is the map of the suburb where my school is located. I find the borders so interesting. I want to hear the discussions that took place as some of those lines were drawn. Dropped it into Pixlr Express for some texture.
