I think there's an important distinction to be made between content management systems and Web publishing platforms. Applications like SharePoint or Wordpress are, at heart, Web publishing systems. Sure, SharePoint can be configured to work like a CCMS (as described above), but at its heart, it's just a publishing tool.

I think what +Karen McGrane often refers to as a true CMS is a tool developed to interact with various publishing platforms (be they Web or otherwise).
CMSs THAT CREATE BLOBS VS. CHUNKS

I was talking about Blob vs. Chunk content in class last week, and one of the students had a quizzical look and asked what were some examples of CMSs that produced "Blob" content.

For context, I was describing blob content as what you often get when using a WYSIWYG CMS with one of those drag/drop editors where everything ends up in a single editing box — i.e., page blobs.

Anyway, I knew of one proprietary CMS I used years ago that was like that, but I couldn't think of any recent examples that I'd seen latey, and I realized it was a damn good question. You see so many high-profile personalities talking about "blob" content and the crappy CMSs that create it but they never actually say what CMSs. So...

What are some CMSs that create blob content (since they seem to be so  ubiquitous)?

Btw, I can name several CMSs that are somewhat half-way between blobs and chunks. For example, any CMS that has a "body" field will produce blobbish content in that field (headers, inserted images and/or videos, pullquotes, etc.), but I can't think of any that are entirely blob-oriented. Any names would be useful. Thanks.
