An amazing place where you will find local families picnicking on the weekends. Rocky to get into the water but once in the waist deep water much of the bottom is white sand and easy to walk on. Turtles frequently come in and will swim right past you if you're still.

Absolutely gorgeous spot. Three turtles were paddling around when we went there, the water was lovely (this is in December), and there are good toilets / changing facilities. Very nice!

Carlsmith Park in Hilo, is located at the next driveway past the Mauna Loa Condos on Kalanianaole Ave.. You'll find a small parking lot, in which to park your car there. The trail begins at the edge of the lot and out to the ocean. The trail itself wanders through a jungle canopy of many trees and vines and various plants. The trail is roughly a little more than a 1/4 mile long and opens up at the ocean with some breathtaking views and some well deserved ocean breeze as it can be quite humid through the jungle trail. Very interesting as well as beautiful short walk. The trail can also be easily accessed from the rear of the Mauna Loa Condos near the turtle ponds.
