Along similar lines, I've often thought about Philadelphia's "Renaissance School" movement as a kind of "Scramble for Africa". I'm interested in studying the colonial anxiety of turnaround schools...there seems to be a necessity for a "founding myth" that makes sweeping claims about the formerly failing school (vilifying teachers, staff, admin.).
