For 17 straight months, CTA bus ridership has declined compared with the previous year, a trend that the CTA calls "complicated."

Maybe they should look at the Ventra rollout as a possible cause for the drop in ridership. Instead of spending a half billion for the new fare system, they would have (probably) saved money by upgrading the machines that took the magnetic strips.

The Blue Line has been affected by more than a dozen delays in June for a variety of reasons, including door and mechanical problems. RedEye rounded up the delays in the form of tweets by the CTA. The $5 fee is no longer waived if you purchase your Ventra card in a store. Also, the Ventra customer service center is now open for fewer hours.
CTA riders who get their Ventra cards from retailers, online or by phone will now have to pay a $5 fee that can be refunded as transit credit if riders register the card.

Planning on taking the CTA this Fourth of July weekend? Know these things.
The CTA is adding extra service to events around the city this weekend in anticipation of more riders, some of whom will be navigating the system for the first time since the CTA completed its transition to Ventra on Tuesday.
