In 1998 Andy Bechtolsheim wrote Larry and Sergey a check for $100k after a 30 minute pitch. In 2012 that's Red Rock Cafe on a Tuesday.

kfury.com is an experiment, blogging on the Svbtle platform. Fury.com is currently dormant because I'm not happy with my publishing system and am too busy to migrate (again) to a new one. Eventually Fury.com will be both a more static identity site and a clearinghouse for stuff I post all over, while kfury.com will be the more polished medium-form stuff I do that has a broader appeal, without requiring any context of who I am or what I'm about.

It may be a year before I get everything settled the way I like.

Blast from the past. Gmail originally used the card metaphor to keep an email conversation in proper time order while still giving proper importance to the unread (later) items in the conversation.

Another article about the evolution of Google design where +Matias Duarte and +Fred Gilbert speak eloquently about our design thinking and culture, specifically on the topic of index card-like UI elements on a contrasting background as a way to group, organize, and deal with information. One thing +matt buchanan might be interested in is that the use of "cards" at Google dates back much further than Google Now (2012) but to the original Gmail user interface (2004) (hello out there, +Kevin Fox!).

I will say that I much prefer our contemporary, crisply square cards, but nevertheless a rose is a rose. This pattern was then adopted by Google Groups (2006) and from there... I'd need to do more research :) Anyways, I thought it was worth mentioning and adding to the lively discussion around Google and user interface design in general.

I think that pendulum would only swing between Falsely-Understood-Usability and Falsely-Understood-Aesthetics. If you deeply care about both parts, then they form a team that walks in the same direction, with shared benefits.

Check out our (bigger, blacker) box!

A Bigger Blacker Box! We LOVE Cards Against Humanity, but like so many card games once you start buying expansions keeping the cards organized and in one place gets hard. So you take some cards out of the expansion and mix them in and take some cards out of the main box and store those in the expansion box claiming you will mix them up again later.

Even if you do mix in the old cards there are more expansions you will get and then the cards are in so many different places it just becomes clutter. In my quest to organize, my husband and I decided that what we needed is one box to contain them all! In other words a Bigger Blacker Box!!

There are not a lot of good box options out there that fall in the middle range, so we went for this rather large box meant to store LOTS of baseball cards. And of course I couldn't stop there. I still wanted the tell-tale look for the CAH box. So my Cameo Silhouette came to the rescue and we cut beautiful vinyl letters to name this box as exactly what it is!

Even with the main set, 2 regular expansion sets and one small holiday expansion set we are still only using just over 1/4 of the box. So this is my message to everyone over at Cards Against Humanity LLC. - We need more expansions!! Please fill my Bigger Blacker Box!!!

The iOS Maps debacle seems much worse when you consider that Apple is probably courting auto mfgs for in-car iOS at this very moment.
