One thing that's surprised me about Google+ is that I can actually share with more people than on Facebook. Because people can add me (or anyone) to their circles without me doing anything, and I can use the "Public" tag to let them see certain posts, the number of people I can send something to here is, at 2,500 or so, already lot larger than on Facebook, where I've got many fewer friends than that.
I'd sort of assumed that Google+'s Circles were going to make it the de facto "private" social network, where it was easy to share narrowly, but now I think I was wrong about that, and the design is also better for sharing widely, which means it can also act as a public network.
